The developers from the Chinese studio Pixpil decided to pay tribute to the classic Japanese RPGs, in whose company they could grow up at the turn of the eighties and nineties of the last century. The result is the newly released Eastward, which takes a lot of inspiration from, for example, the Legend of the Zelda, Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy series. However, it can win you over especially with its unique world, story and precisely developed characters.

Your first steps in the game will be slow. Eastward makes sure that you really get to know his world and the pair of protagonists, the pensive John and the girl with mystical powers Sam. From the underground shelter, you will soon be dropped on the earth's surface, which in the past has been polluted by a mysterious fog that has made large parts of the planet practically uninhabitable. Together with the two main heroes, you will discover a foreign world and make your way east to unexplored areas.

In terms of gameplay, Eastward is most similar to the previously mentioned older works of The Legend of Zelda series. So don't expect any complicated combat system. John swings a frying pan at beautifully animated enemies while Sam assists him with increasingly powerful energy blasts. During the thirty-hour story, you will of course also try out other weapons, such as a shotgun or a flamethrower. But Easteward's strength lies mainly in the story and the rendering of the strange world. It will be revealed to you gradually, partly thanks to solving a series of logical puzzles and fights with simple bosses.
