The biggest advantage of the protocol HTTPS is his safety. Data sent using HTTPS is secured by Transport Layer Security (TLS), which provides three key layers of protection: encryption, authentication, and data integrity. For example, no bank can do without HTTPS in internet banking.
If you provide your website content securely via HTTPS, you can guarantee that no one will change how the page is displayed to the user. The HTTP protocol does not encrypt data, and it is never possible to determine whether the content the user is viewing belongs to the given website. This cannot happen with the use of HTTPS, which is why it is the best way to protect user data and defend against identity theft.
Additionally, websites running on insecure HTTP are much slower. Loading speed HTTPS is higher thanks to the so-called SPDY protocol, which can group requests for individual files.
The advantage of the HTTPS protocol is, for example, that such websites are favored in the natural results in the Seznam.cz search. When ranking them, one of the many signals of relevance is whether the website runs on a secure protocol.
