The basic idea behind activating Family Sharing is to give other household members access to Apple services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade or iCloud storage. iTunes or App Store purchases can also be shared. The principle is that one pays and everyone else uses the product.

We all know that we spend more time on electronic devices than we should. If your job is to work on a computer, that's a different matter, of course. But as for the phone, it is a different situation. With Screen Time, you can see real-time reports showing how much time you spend on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You can also set limits on the use of certain apps.

Screen time and screen use

The Screen Time feature here measures how much time you or your kids spend on apps, websites, and other activities. Thanks to this, you can make better decisions about how to use the device and possibly set limits. To see an overview, go to Settings -> Screen Time and tap Show All Activity below the graph.

Turn on Screen Time.

  • Go to Settings -> Screen time.
  • Click on Turn on Screen Time.
  • Click on Continue.
  • choose This is my [device] or This is my child's [device].

After turning on the function, you will see an overview. From it you will find out how you use the device itself, applications and websites. If it's a child's device, you can set up Screen Time directly on their device, or configure it using Family Sharing from your device. Once your child's device is set up, you can view reports or adjust settings from your device using Family Sharing.

Screen Time settings in Family Sharing

You can set a passcode so that only you can change Screen Time settings or allow extra time when app limits are used up. You can use this feature to set content and privacy restrictions on your child's device.

  • Go to Settings -> Screen time.
  • Go down and in the section Rodina choose the child's name
  • Click on Turn on Screen Time and then on Continue
  • In parts Quiet time, Application Limits a Content and Privacy set the restrictions that should apply to the child.
  • Click on Use the Screen Time code, and when prompted, enter the code. Enter the code again to confirm.
  • Enter yours Apple ID and password. You can then use it to reset the Screen Time code if you forget it.

Keep in mind that if you update iOS, any historical times will probably be deleted automatically.
