Reviews of various power banks have already appeared in our magazine. Some power banks are only intended for charging the phone, with others you can easily charge a MacBook as well. As a rule, the larger the capacity, the larger the body of the power bank. However, these are still power banks for classic devices. But what about our Apple Watch? They also do not run on air and need to be recharged regularly, usually after one or two days. So if you are going on a trip, you must pack the charging cable together with the adapter. These are two more things that you can lose while traveling. Fortunately, Belkin has created the perfect miniature power bank for the Apple Watch called Boost Charge. So let's take a look at the power bank in this review.
This power bank is only intended for charging the Apple Watch, so you cannot charge any other device with it. Due to its size, which is more precisely 7,7 cm × 4,4 cm × 1,5 cm, you can easily take it with you, for example, even in your pocket. The total capacity of the power bank is 2200 mAh. For comparison, the Apple Watch Series 4 has a 290 mAh battery. This means that you can charge them 7,5 times. You can charge the Belkin Boost Charge power bank simply through the microUSB connector, which is located on one of the shorter sides. On the same side, you will also find diodes informing about the charging of the powerbank and, of course, the button to start it.
Since we are reviewing a power bank, you can't expect too much from the packaging. However, you will be pleased with the nicely crafted box, which on the front shows the power bank's usability in practice. You will then find additional information and specifications on the back. After opening the box, just pull out the cardboard holder, in which the power bank itself is already attached. The package also includes a short, 15 cm microUSB cable, with which you can easily charge the power bank. Furthermore, the package contains a manual in several languages, which of course is not needed.
The processing of the Belkin Boost Charge power bank is very minimalistic. The power bank is made of classic black plastic, the dominant role here is played only by the white charging pad on which the Apple Watch rests. Since you cannot charge the apple watch with a charger other than the original one, the exact same charging pad that you get in the package with the watch had to be used. So it can be seen at first glance that the charging pad is somehow inserted and fixed in the power bank. Unfortunately, there is currently no other option for charging the Apple Watch. The good news is that the power bank can also charge the latest Apple Watch Series 4. Some manufacturers faced problems and it was not possible to charge the "four" Apple Watch through third-party accessories. On one of the shorter sides, there is the already mentioned microUSB connector, as well as four LEDs that inform you of the charge status, as well as a button to activate the LEDs.
I didn't have a single problem with the Belkin Boost Charge power bank during the entire testing period. This is a very high-quality product from a well-known brand, whose products can also be found on the official Apple online store. So there is no shortage of quality. I really like the compactness of the power bank, because you can put it practically anywhere. When you are in a hurry, you can quickly pack it in your pocket or throw it anywhere in your backpack. When you need it most and your watch tells you that it has only 10% battery left, you simply pull out the power bank and let the watch charge. Perhaps it is a shame that this power bank does not have a connector for charging the phone. This would be a very small pocket power bank, with which you could easily charge your phone once. You may be wondering if charging is faster or slower compared to a classic charger. Since the powerbank has an output of 5W, it is a given on paper that charging is as fast as when using a classic charger, which I can confirm from my own experience.
