At the end of last year, Logitech introduced the third version of its Mini Boombox, which has changed its name twice since its first iteration and received a completely new design. The original Mini Boombox replaced the UE Mobile and the latest successor is called the UE Mini Boom, which at first glance is completely identical to the second generation.

In fact, the UE Mini Boom is so identical that for a moment I thought we were sent last year's piece by mistake. The third generation completely follows the design second row, which is definitely not a bad thing. The previous UE Mobile really did well and brought a number of improvements and a simplified look to the original Mini Boombox.

Like the previous model UE Mini Boom, the surface is uniform on the sides, it is surrounded by colored rubberized plastic. It is the rubber surface along the entire lower part that prevents the speaker from moving during strong bass. The original Mini Boombox had a tendency to travel on the table. On the upper side, there are the only control buttons of the device - volume control and a button for pairing via Bluetooth. In addition, you will also find a small hole in which the microphone is hidden, because the Mini Boom can also be used as a speaker phone.

The only visible difference between the previous generation and this one is the different appearance of the front and rear grills plus a small indicator diode in front. Several new colors or color combinations have also been added. Of course, a minimal change in the design of the speaker is not a bad thing, especially if it currently looks very good, but for the customer, the minimal change in appearance and the constantly changing product name can be a bit confusing.

The Bluetooth range has also been slightly improved, which is now 15 meters, with the previous generation the signal was lost after about 11-12 meters. Battery life remained the same, Mini Boom can play for up to ten hours on a single charge. It is charged via the microUSB port, the USB cable is included in the package.

Sound and stereo reproduction

After simply pairing and playing the first songs, it's obvious that the sound reproduction has changed, and for the better, compared to previous generations. The sound is cleaner and less distorted at higher volumes. Unfortunately, this is still a very small speaker, so you can't expect perfect sound.

The reproduction is dominated by the center frequencies, while the bass, despite the presence of bass flex, is relatively weak. At the same time, the first generation had quite a lot of bass. It's very clear with harder metal music, with which most small reprobeds have problems.

An interesting novelty is the possibility to connect two UE Mini Boom speakers. Logitech has released an iOS app for this. If you already have one speaker paired, the app prompts you to connect a second one by double-pressing the pairing button on the second boombox. After a few seconds it will join and start playing together with the first one.

The application offers either reproducing the same channels from both boomboxes, or dividing the stereo into each one separately. The left channel will play in one speaker and the right channel in the other. In this way, with a good distribution of the speakers, you will not only achieve a better sound result, but the reproduction will also feel louder.

záver

I confess that I am a fan of this series of speakers from Logitech. The first generation surprised for its size with good sound and durability, the downside was the processing and design. This ailment was solved by the second generation, but it had a worse sound, especially the bass was missing. The UE Mini Boombox sits somewhere between better sound and the same great design.

The stereo reproduction function after connecting a second Boombox is a nice addition, but rather than buying a second speaker, I would recommend investing directly in, for example, a speaker from the higher UE Boom series, which costs roughly the same money as two Boomboxes. Nevertheless, the UE Mini Boom is great as a stand-alone unit, and for a price of around 2 crowns, you won't find too many better small speakers.
