Ondrej Holzman Unit Portables is a Swedish company that produces sophisticated bags and cases with a fresh design, with which they target a younger group of customers. We tried out their travel bag called Unit 05, which you can customize according to your needs…
The Unit 05 travel bag from Unit Portables is not named by chance. The Swedes label their products from Unit 01 to Unit 16 at the moment. The offer includes bags, backpacks, cases for laptops and tablets, and each product has its own label and can be combined in various ways. On the one hand, they are sold in sets, and on the other hand, you can buy various accessories for satchels and other bags.
The Unit 05 travel bag we tested comes bundled together with the Unit 06, Unit 07 and Unit 08 – a mesh toiletry bag, a laptop sleeve and a bag for the power adapter and cables. These accessories can be used separately, but their main advantage is that they can be attached to the inside and outside of a large travel bag.
Use for a travel bag with dimensions of 32 × 46 × 21 cm is best described by its English name Overnight Bag, i.e. an "overnight" bag, ideal for a weekend trip. It can also be a suitable companion on the plane. Unit Portables products are based on elegant simplicity and functional design, with which they want to fit in between boring satchels and snobby fashion bags.
That's why the Unit 05 travel bag itself doesn't really offer much. One large storage compartment and a small side pocket, both hidden under the zipper. Many will certainly appreciate that it has both a handle for holding in the hand and a strap for carrying over the shoulder.
However, the previously mentioned accessories (Unit 05/06/07) play an important role in the ingenious Unit Portables system. Each case or bag for personal items has studs on them, with which you can attach them to a large travel bag, from the outside as well as from the inside. On the outside, you can attach, for example, a toiletry bag with the most necessary things, so that you don't have to search for large pockets every time, on the other hand, inside you can attach a laptop to the side of the bag so that it doesn't roll around among other items.
If you attach the toilet bag from the outside, you don't have to worry that someone could simply tear it off. The studs are relatively strong, and there are four of them, and it is practically impossible to pull off all four at once. The polyester material does not mind even a little rain, so from this point of view there is nothing to prevent the use of external grips.
In addition to the mentioned elements, Unit Portables also offers a tablet case (Unit 04), a document case (Unit 09) or a phone case (Unit 10). Unit 01 is a shoulder bag, Unit 15 is a backpack and Unit 16 is a so-called tote bag. These bags and rucksacks also have holders for smaller accessories with studs on them, so if you have more than one Unit Portables product, you can really mix and match them to your heart's content.
You will pay 05 crowns for the Unit 06/07/08/2 travel bag, which is not a staggering amount considering the prices of competing products. The goods from Unit Portables are stylish and certainly do not look cheap, on the contrary, details such as patches with labels give it the right flair.
