In today's review, we will look at a truly premium and special model, which is the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H95 wireless headphones, which the company released as part of the brand's 95th birthday celebrations. Let's see how they did with this anniversary model.

Specifications

Sound production is handled by 40 mm dynamic drivers with a frequency range of 20 Hz - 22 kHz and a sensitivity of 101,5 dB and an impedance of 12 Ohms. Bluetooth 5.1 takes care of wireless transmission, but it is also possible to connect a classic audio cable to the headphones. In wireless mode, the headphones will last up to 38 hours when the ambient noise suppression mode is turned on and up to 50 hours when it is turned off. The battery with a capacity of 1110 mAh is then fully charged (via a USB-C cable) in about two hours. The headphones also boast support for SBC, AAC and aptX™ Adaptive audio codecs, will offer the integration of a voice assistant with support for Siri, a total of 4 microphones for voice recording, another 4 to ensure the proper functioning of ANC and the Multipoint function, which allows you to connect up to two devices. In addition to the headphones, the luxurious packaging includes an aluminum transport case, an audio and charging cable, an airplane adapter and a microfiber cleaning cloth. The earphones weigh 323 grams and are available in silver, black and gold color options.

Execution

At first glance, the headphones have a very high-quality, even luxurious impression. The frame and shells are made of brushed aluminum, the head bridge is padded with fabric with a leather trim, the only thing that is plastic at first glance are the baffles on the shells. The sides of the shells are decorated with brushed aluminum decor with a circular texture and a laser-burned B&O logo. Everything is perfectly aligned, the contact surfaces and stressed areas (especially in the bends) are solid, the padding of the head bridge and ear cups is more than sufficient. From the point of view of the workshop processing and the materials used, there is not much to complain about. The included cables are also of high quality, which are strongly braided and also give a very solid impression.

Ergonomics and handling

The ergonomics are surprisingly good considering how big the headphones really are. The cushioning is quite sufficient and the headphones do not give you a headache even after several hours of listening. The headphones do not press anywhere (perhaps they are rather a little looser in terms of clamping pressure) and they are comfortable to wear. The ergonomics of the earcups are very good due to the extensive locking option. The same goes for the frame size options. The headphones are more for quiet use. Due to their size, weight and stability, even running around can be potentially problematic. However, they can handle the shocks caused by normal walking without the slightest problem.

In terms of control, the headphones will offer either controls directly on their body, or additional control via the Bang&Olufsen application, which also serves as a library of instructions, tips & tricks and other settings. In the application, it is possible to change the volume setting, ANC strength level or transparent mode, or choose and edit individual listening presets that offer their specific form of equalizer. The controls on the headphones as such are very successful. There is a large rotary control on each earcup, which in one case changes the volume, in the other the level or strength of the ANC/Transparency mode. Tapping the right earcup replaces the play/pause function, and on the side of the left earcup we find a dedicated button for the voice assistant (Siri is supported). Thanks to the rotary controls, handling the headphones and listening is very pleasant, and the controls as such are excellently executed.

Sound quality

In terms of sound, there is also not much to complain about with the headphones. In the basic settings, they sound beautifully full, lively and offer a large amount of detail. The basic audio delivery is fairly balanced, but the accompanying Bang&Olufsen application will offer a wide range of audio customization options. On the one hand, there are preset listening profiles that change the sound characteristics, and it is also possible to create your own in a special editor, which serves as a kind of skinned equalizer when the bass is set on one axis and the treble on the other. Thanks to this setting, everyone can set the sound profile according to their own preferences. The headphones are able to cope with almost any setting. Subjectively, their performance is very good, they can solidly separate individual frequencies, the bass can be strong without affecting other frequencies, and in general it is very pleasant to listen to.

Summary

The Bang&Olufsen Beoplay H95 headphones will offer first-class workmanship, great sound quality and solid accessories. Thanks to the sound individualization offered by the accompanying application, they should fit almost every listener. Excellent endurance and solid ANC further underline the quality of this exclusive model. The price is also quite exclusive, but it should not discourage fans of the brand too much.
