Today, the famous rapper Jay Z took the fight seriously with his own music streaming service. Its name is Tidal and it is a service that was originally launched by a Swedish company. Jay Z reportedly paid $56 million for the acquisition and has big plans for Tidal. This is also indicated by the fact that the service was launched relatively globally and is also available in the Czech Republic.

It might seem that this is just one of many music services, of which there are already quite a few on the market. Only in the Czech Republic can you choose between, for example, Spotify, Deezer, Rdio or even Google Play Music. However, Tidal is different in one crucial way. As Alicia Keys said, Tidal is the very first global platform for music and entertainment that is owned by the artists themselves. And it is precisely at this point that it is necessary to sharpen up. In addition to Jay Z and his wife Beyoncé, people who have a financial stake in this music service include the aforementioned Alicia Keys, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Usher, Deadmau5, Madonna, Rihanna, Jason Aldean, Nicki Minaj, Win Butler and Régine Chassagn of Arcade Fire, Chris Martin of Coldplay, J. Cole, Jack White and Calvin Harris.

This list of financially interested artists from the highest circles of the music world can be an attractive draw for potential customers, but above all it can cause a few wrinkles for Apple. Tim Cook and his team led by Eddy Cuo are working on own music service based on the already existing Beats Music service, which Apple acquired as part of last year's three billion acquisition of Beats. Apple wanted on its streaming service attract customers primarily with exclusive content. However, Jay Z and his Tidal could be an obstacle here.

Already with iTunes, Apple has always tried to fight for customers with more exclusive content and has given up on attempts to implement a predatory pricing policy. An example of this procedure could be Beyoncé's exclusive album, which was released on iTunes in December 2013. However, this singer is now financially interested in Tidal, along with many other stars of today's music scene, and the question is how important performers will react to the new situation.

At Apple, they have a number of competitive advantages, which should be reflected in the fight for the music business. The company itself has a decent standing in the music industry, with Jimmy Iovino in its ranks, and what's more, there's really a lot of money in Cupertino. In theory, Apple shouldn't be threatened by rapper Jay Z and his new service. But it can easily happen that the performers involved in the Tidal project will simply not go against their own business and will try to promote it with their own exclusive content.

Finally, an interesting fact is the fact that Jay Z tried to acquire Jimmy Iovino, who now works at Apple, for his Tidal. The rapper from New York admitted this in an interview for Billboard. Iovine is said to have tried to lure him in by arguing that Tidal is a service for artists, the people Iovine has stood behind all his life. However, the co-founder of Beats did not accept the offer.

If you want to try Tidal, the app is in the App Store free download in universal version for iPhone and iPad. There are two types of subscriptions on offer. You can listen to unlimited music in the Czech Republic in standard quality for €7,99 per month. You will then pay €15,99 for music in premium quality.
