Press Release: QNAP, a leading provider of storage, networking and computing solutions, has released QTS 4.3.5 beta – the latest version of the QNAP NAS operating system. The QTS 4.3.5 operating system has many new and improved features that improve the storage and networking aspects for home, business and corporate users. The result is a powerful, efficient and effective QNAP NAS user experience.

Key Features and Benefits of QTS 4.3.5:

Storage - Take full advantage of SSDs, streamline storage management and data recovery

  • Software-defined SSD over-provisioning: Configure SSD RAID over-provisioning to reduce unwanted SSD writes. This allows for maximum SSD lifetime and constant random write performance of over 100% compared to SSDs with only default over-provisioning. It is beneficial for significantly speeding up applications that require frequent writing, such as databases and intensive online editing. With a unique SSD profiling tool, you can evaluate the best over-provisioning ratio based on users' target IOPS performance.
  • Restoring from remotely stored images: Snapshot recovery from a remote snapshot replica can now be directly written to the local NAS over the network without manually restoring all folders and files to the backup destination, then they can be copied back to the local NAS. This saves time and effort through more efficient procedures.
  • Flexible volume configuration and conversion: Volumes can now be converted between static and dynamic, guaranteeing maximum flexibility in allocating storage space. Volume sizes can also be reduced so that the NAS can adapt to changing storage allocation needs.
  • Increasing VJBOD performance with iSER: QNAP's patented Virtual JBOD (VJBOD) technology is now enhanced with support for iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER) technology from Mellanox NICs, increasing transfer speeds and enabling more efficient storage expansion.

Network – Accelerate workflows with high-speed connectivity and flexibility

  • Software Network and Virtual Switch: This application is enhanced and brings many new features including network topology, device diagram to identify physical ports, a number of customizable DDNS settings, NCSI service, static route, software defined switch mode, complete IPv6 features and IP addresses reserved for DHCPv4, it greatly streamlines and improves performance at the heart of the user experience. UI improvements for Thunderbolt™ and wireless networks make their statuses clearer and settings more convenient.
  • Improved support for SmartNIC: QTS now supports powerful features built into advanced Network Interface Controllers (NICs) such as Mellanox® ConnectX®-4 for iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER).
  • QBelt, a virtual private network (VPN) protocol: QBelt, QNAP's proprietary VPN protocol, added to QVPN Services increases network security by encrypting traffic and reducing the probability of detection. QBelt can also be used to access and bypass geo-blocked web content and/or corporate intranet resources.

Other new features:

Notification Center - you will never miss a system notification again

  • The new Notification Center consolidates system logs and notifications for all NAS applications into a single application with flexible policy settings, facilitating smooth and easy NAS management. There are also other notification methods such as email, SMS, instant messaging and push notifications.

Security Counselor - security portal for QNAP NAS

  • Security Counselor looks for vulnerabilities and offers recommendations to improve NAS security and protect your data from a variety of attack methods. It also integrates anti-virus and anti-malware scanning software to ensure complete protection of your QNAP NAS.

Features and functions are subject to change and may not be available for all QNAP NAS models.

Note: QTS 4.3.5 will be the final version supporting the SS/TS-x79 and TS/TVS-x70 series.
