The TS-230 uses a Realtek RTD1296 1,4GHz quad-core processor, built-in 2GB DDR4 RAM, and meets the requirements of NAS storage at home and for personal use. It offers one Gigabit port and supports SATA 6 Gb/s disk drives, AES-256 encryption and SSD cache. Cooling uses a Sintetico type HDB fan for intensive air flow, which is also very quiet and thus brings better cooling of the TS-230 model with continuous system operation. Tool-free hard drive installation makes setting up the TS-230 easy even for NAS novices.

The TS-230 has an intelligent QTS operating system that supports comprehensive file storage, sharing, backup and synchronization, and data protection. Users can regularly back up Windows® or macOS® data to the TS-230 to centralize file management and sharing, and use the HBS app to back up NAS data to the cloud. NAS storage's ability to create multiple snapshot versions is useful for data encryption-based virus protection and quick and easy point-in-time recovery. Most useful features include Qfiling for automated file organization, Qsirch for quickly searching for specific files or images by keyword or color, Qsync for synchronizing files across devices such as NAS storage, mobile devices and computers, and mobile apps for remote NAS access with higher productivity at work and at home.
The TS-230 model can also function as a central home storage. It supports Plex® for media streaming and real-time 4K (H.264) transcoding to convert videos to universal file formats that can be played smoothly on more devices. QuMagie's AI application brings intelligent and simple photo management with automatic album organization using artificial intelligence. Together with the QuMagie companion app, users can easily browse NAS photos anytime, anywhere. The built-in Application Center in QTS offers multiple applications on demand, including tools for backup/sync, content management, communication, downloads and entertainment, to make NAS storage functions even more diverse. For Docker users, containerized applications such as smart homes or multimedia applications can be facilitated by installing Container Station on the TS-230 storage.
