Puma, one of the most influential fashion brands, comes with self-lacing sneakers. Puma Fi (Fit Intelligence), as the futuristic shoes are called, are a direct response to recently introduced Adapt BB by Nike.

The Puma Fi have a motor on the upper that is designed to fit into the shoe around the foot, replacing traditional lacing. The shoes are powered by a replaceable battery, which is hidden in a waterproof case inside the shoe, and we can charge them in two ways. You either place the heel of the shoe on the Qi wireless charger or place it in the charging case.

Puma Fi in the hands of the editor from Engadget:

The sneaker is based on the original Autodisc model, which was Puma's first self-tying sneaker. There are several differences compared to the Nike Adapt BB competitors. The first is the price, which in the case of the Fi is $330, which is $20 less than Nike wants for its Adapt BB.

Another difference is in the lacing itself. While with the Adapt BB the shoes tie themselves immediately after you put them on, with the Puma Fi you tie them using a button on the iPhone or Apple Watch. The design of the shoes themselves differs, of course, with the model from Nike being primarily intended for basketball players, while the Puma Fi is a universal sneaker.

Official press photos of the sneakers and their packaging:

Neither Fi nor Adapt BB have activity tracking or location tracking features. It is one of the first sneakers on the market that can be controlled by a smartphone, and if this trend takes off, we could see more sneakers in the future.

The Puma Fi weighs 428 grams and will go on sale next spring. For now, only foreign journalists, including Richard Lai from the server, could try on the sneakers Engadget. However, Puma will also launch a beta program for regular users, from whom it expects feedback and suggestions for improvements. It will be possible to sign up for the program through the application PUMATRAC, where the company will also announce the date of the start of sales of sneakers.
