Psyonix catered to macOS and Linux players by releasing Rocket League for those platforms despite the small gaming community of those platforms. However, the popular game is finally coming to an end after three and a half years since its release on Mac and Linux, the publisher announced. The reason is that the number of players has dropped so much that it is no longer worthwhile for the studio to work on further development of the game for these platforms.

The servers of these versions will be disconnected at the beginning of March and players will only be able to play offline against artificial intelligence or opponents in split-screen mode. However, the player will lose access to all online features including in-app purchases and will also lose the ability to purchase additional content. Among the features that will be disabled, in addition to online modes, we will find Rocket Pass, shopping store, special game events, friends list, news panel, community creations and tables.

The game will continue to be maintained on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. It also continues to support cross-platform multiplayer on these platforms. The Psyonix studio itself was bought out last year by Epic Games, the company behind the popular Unreal engine, developed the Infinity Blade series of games for the iPhone and celebrates the monumental success of the battle royale title Fortnite. This is also available as a free download for Mac and also supports cross-platform multiplayer. Here, the feature has been modified to connect players according to the control method.
