Apple Pay this morning it started in the Czech Republic with the support of six banks, including Air Bank and Česká spořitelna. Both mentioned have already published the first statistics, which indicate that there is really enormous interest in the service on the part of Czech Apple users.

15 Air Bank clients have already activated Apple Pay from this morning until noon today. In the case of Česká spořitelna, a total of 6 users activated the service during the same period of time – i.e. from 00:12 a.m. to 00:13 p.m., which represents approximately one in six iPhone or iPad users among ČS clients.

How to set up Apple Pay on iPhone:

During the morning, Air Bank clients paid for 3 purchases with a total volume of 570 crowns via Apple Pay. Česká spořitelna's clients made a total of 3 transactions, of which 128 were done via iPhone, 10 via Apple Watch, and 998 via iPad, with a total value of CZK 2788. At the savings bank, Apple Pay can also be used for contactless withdrawals from ATMs, where clients made withdrawals in the amount of 126 crowns in the morning.

"Air Bank customers pay by card much more often than the average in the entire banking market, and they have also very quickly taken to paying by mobile. When we launched payment via My Air for Android less than a year ago, six thousand clients switched on the service on the first day, and today more than fifty thousand people use it. And we are now seeing an even faster start with paying via Apple Pay, when fifteen thousand Air Bank clients have already switched on the service just a few hours after the launch," says Tomáš Veselý, head of Air Bank's daily services department.

Česká spořitelna currently only offers Apple Pay compatibility with Visa cards. The bank promised Mastercard support for March.
