Earlier this week, Apple began the surprising unveiling of the first new products of the year, without any great fanfare, with the help of press releases. We could wait for that on Monday brand new iPads, respectively the new 10,5″ iPad Air and, after four years, the updated iPad Mini. Reviews of the second-named novelty began to appear on the web today, and almost all reviewers agree that it is the absolute best in its class.

In short, most reviews could be summed up by saying that you can't get anything better in this segment. However, the truth remains that Apple does not have much competition in the field of small tablets. Other mini-tablets on the Android platform do not even come close to matching the new iPad Mini, both in terms of processing quality, display and in general in terms of performance. It is precisely the performance that many reviewers praise. The A12 Bionic processor works wonders, and after the new iPhones, it has settled in the new iPads as well - and it has power to spare.

The screen also received great praise. The 7,9″ display with a resolution of 2048 × 1536 offers excellent finesse, great brightness and traditionally great color rendering at Apple. The only complaint could be the lack of support for the Promotion function, which is just a fancy name for a higher refresh rate of the display, which makes all animations amazingly smooth. The display in the new iPad Mini (as well as in the new Air) is only 60 Hz. On the other hand, it supports P3 gamut, Apple Pencil 1st generation and is laminated, which is also a huge plus.

Review by The Verge:

The ability to use the Apple Pencil is great, especially in combination with a laminated display. Only the support of the first generation Apple Pencil will freeze, but to support the second, Apple would have to completely change the chassis of the device, which was obviously not planned. If you were comfortable with the original Apple Pencil working with the original iPad Pros (or last year's cheap iPad), you'll be completely satisfied here as well.

On the other hand, the camera, which has not changed much since the original four-year-old iteration of the iPad Mini, did not arouse much joy. The situation is helped by the A12 Bionic processor, which improves the resulting images at least a little with the help of smart software (for example, the Smart HDR function). The speakers, which haven't changed much since the last time, aren't great either. There is still only a pair of stereo speakers, instead of a more powerful and functional solution from the new iPad Pros.

Engadget:

Apart from the aforementioned, however, the new iPad Minis are definitely not a step aside for those looking for a small and super powerful tablet. There is currently nothing equipped like this on the market. The competition from Android is behind in many ways, powerful tablets from Microsoft, on the other hand, do not reach such compact dimensions. So, if you are looking for a very mobile, compact and at the same time powerful and feature-packed tablet, the iPad Mini should suit you.
