We've known that since game controller support was announced Logitech and MOGA are working on the hardware for convenient gaming on iOS devices. Over the past months, we've seen several leaked photos, videos, and images teasing the upcoming device. We expected the controllers to be introduced with the new iPads, as there was still no mention of when the first controllers would appear. Finally, the first controller is out now, it's called MOGA Ace Power and it's designed for iPhone 5/5s and iPod touch 5th generation.

Ace Power turns the device into a PS Vita-style handheld. It works as a case into which the device is inserted and connected via the Lightning connector. The controller is foldable and includes attachments so it can be used with both iPhones and iPod touches, which have different chassis. The controller uses an extended interface, i.e. with two analog sticks and a pair of shoulder buttons on both sides. The device also includes a built-in battery that can power the iPhone or iPod while playing, extending its battery life.

Server & Hosting Touch Arcade already had the driver option to review. According to reviewer Elie Hodapp, the gamepad really enhances the gaming experience, especially for games like shooters, racing games, action-adventure and platformers where great precision is required. Currently, game controllers support some mainstream games such as Dead Trigger 2, Limbo, Asphalt 8, Bastion or the new Oceanborn. However, the controls are not always quite ideal, especially in the case of Oceanhorn, which may be a result of the fact that the developers did not have the opportunity to calibrate the game sufficiently, since the controllers were not physically available at the time of development. But it's nothing that an update won't fix.

However, according to Hodapp, the Ace Power does not reach the quality that one would expect for the $99 that the controller will cost. The texture feels cheap, the buttons are too noisy and the sliding mechanism for folding is also not quite precisely executed. Still, according to him, this is a step forward as far as gaming on iOS devices is concerned. In addition to the manufacturer's website, MOGA Ace Power will also be available in the Apple Online Store. We do not yet have information about availability in the Czech Republic.
