Let's first look at the individual generations of iPhones and the differences between them in brief points. Maybe we'll find out that the iPhone 4S is no flop at all.

Another revolution in the world of mobile phones appeared in iPhone OS 2.0 - App Store. A new way to distribute apps has never been easier for both developers and users. Other little things have also been added, such as support for Microsoft Exchange or the Czech QWERTY keyboard (Czech, however, is missing). Note that there are very few changes compared to the previous model.

For so long others laughed until finally the iPhone could do MMS and copy and paste text. Added voice control and localization into many languages, including Czech. By the way, support for the original iPhone ends with software version 3.1.3. 3G owners really have no reason to buy a new model.

Undoubtedly, the iPhone 4 with iOS 4 was the biggest advancement since the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. Retina display, multitasking, folders, wallpaper under icons, iBooks, FaceTime. Later also Game Center, AirPlay and personal hotspot. The demands of iOS 4 are already beyond the power of 3G, for example multitasking is missing. Here's a reason to buy a new iPhone. 3GS owners can stay relatively calm, unless they wish for a Retina display or more performance.

iOS 4 will be preinstalled in all new iPhone 5S – iOS update via Wi-Fi, synchronization with iTunes via Wi-Fi, notification center, reminders, integration of Twitter, iMessages, kiosk, cards and... iCloud. I've written a lot about apple cloud, so just a quick recap - file and data transfer across your devices, wireless sync and device backup.
A specialty for the iPhone 4S is Siri, a new virtual assistant, about which we wrote more in this article. It should be a revolution in phone-to-person communication. Whether Siri is the first swallow, no one knows yet. Therefore, let's give her at least a few months to show her abilities. However, we are not yet used to talking to our phones as to other people, so it will be very interesting to see if this will change with Siri.
Of course, the camera was also improved. The increase in the number of pixels is no surprise, the 4S has around eight million of them. Pixels are not everything, which Apple knows very well and has focused on the optical system itself. The lens now consists of five lenses, while its aperture reaches f/2.4. That this number doesn't mean anything to you? Most mobile phones use a lens with three to four lenses and an aperture of f/2.8. The difference between f/2.4 and f/2.8 is huge, even if it doesn't look like it at first glance. The iPhone 4S sensor receives 50% more light than, for example, the sensor located in the iPhone 4. The five-point lens is also supposed to increase the sharpness of images by up to 30%. To make matters worse, the iPhone 4S can shoot video in FullHD resolution, which will be automatically stabilized with the help of a gyroscope. Are you also looking forward to the first reviews and sample videos?
Owners of the previous model - the iPhone 4 - can be satisfied. Their phone still has great performance and nothing is forcing them to spend money on a new phone after a year. 3GS users could of course consider the purchase, it depends on preferences. iOS 5 runs decently well on the 3GS, and these old mobile phones can serve without a problem for another year.
Disappointment? No.
When it comes to the insides of the new 4S, there's nothing to complain about. It exactly meets the parameters of today's modern high-end smartphone. Yes, the design remained the same. But I still can't figure out what the benefit of a completely redesigned look would be? After all, even the 3G and 3GS are identical devices from the outside. Apparently people have (unnecessarily) succumbed to reports of a completely redesigned look based on silicone cases. After finding out the dimensions of these cases, I was literally horrified. "Why can't Apple release such a paddle into the world?!", sounded in my head. I was really quite skeptical about these rumours. The closer we got to October 4th, the more obvious it became that a single model with the design of the iPhone 4 would be introduced. Or is it just psychology? Would this model have had a different initial response if it had been called the iPhone 5?
Many people would like a bigger display. All iPhone models have it exactly at 3,5". Competitors mount displays with giant diagonals in the range of 4-5” in their smartphones, which is somewhat understandable. A larger display is suitable for browsing the web, multimedia content or games. However, Apple produces only one phone model, which must satisfy the largest possible percentage of potential users. 3.5" is such a reasonable compromise between size and ergonomics, whereas 4" and larger displays have very little to do with ergonomics for "medium-sized hands".
Therefore, please write in the comments here under the article or on social networks what you expected from the new iPhone and why, and whether you are satisfied with the 4S. Alternatively, write what disappointed you and why.
I, on the other hand, am happy for the same design. I don't have to buy a new car mount. And there will be more accessories that one would have to replace if the dimensions change as everyone prophesied. And a bigger device... Even though I don't have a child's palm and short fingers, this size seems just right to me.
In my opinion, iP4S is a logical step. The iP4 has a great design that doesn't need to be changed so quickly. The biggest change is obviously Siri. Sure, voice control isn't new, but it's how it's delivered and how well it works. And apple can deliver it really well and I'm sure a lot of Americans will start using this feature.
For me, the biggest news is iOS5. Can't wait to download it to my iP4.

It's not just about hw, but mainly about iOS and related services, and your S2 doesn't catch on there.
I would argue a bit. I have tried phones with all possible smart and stupid operating systems (both for work and private). Even though Android has come a long way, iOS has been working reliably for me and doing what I need it to do. And I really don't just make phone calls. RAMs not RAMs, display size, voice control, number of cores and who knows what else SGS has in II better, bigger, smarter and shinier. It's not quite like that. I've been using iP for over 3 years now because of this.
It's absolutely nothing against Andriod, but it still happened to me that I got to the point of having to remove the battery due to a stuck system or similar trifles from various incompatibilities, which are quite annoying at times.

Well, this article exactly captures my feelings. Why disappointed and HW? iOS 5 will always bring the biggest changes. I was afraid that Apple would succumb to the fashion trend of small "tablets" with a calling function :). Besides, the 4S was somewhat expected, just take it: 2007: iPhone 2008: iP 3G 2009: iP 3GS 2010: iP 4 and logically now iP4S. So according to everything iP 5 will be next year and we probably have a lot to look forward to :). And by the way, iOS 5 really did well :)
Well, it's not a disappointment for me - I didn't expect anything. I think it's stupid that siri will only be for 4S, when it would run perfectly on 4, but that's Apple's style. As for the design, the 3G was better, the edge just doesn't fit the hand very well.
You have an error in "fast system with no responses.", it should have been "fast system with no delays."
Behind me: I was expecting a larger display (4″), less weight, a rounded back (IP4 cuts in the hand), a rounded front (IP4 cuts into the ear) and more durable back material. On the other hand, I would prefer just an improved 5Mpx chip and not 8Mpx.
I buy the 4S anyway, if only because I'm bored, but I like the idea of what was considered IP5 more :-)

I am very happy that the new iPhone kept the same design and in my opinion the iPhone 4S is not a disappointment at all, Apple has shown that it is always one step ahead of the competition. I like Siri the most, it is something perfect that paves the way for a new era of mobile phones. But I decided not to buy an iPhone 4S because Siri doesn't work in the Slovak language yet and I don't even know if we'll ever see it, I hope so. iPhone 4 with a screen is enough for everything :)

Exactly as Paul wrote. I also kind of guessed that it could turn out that way. However, there is also the possibility that Apple knew something was very wrong and so the new iPhone was in honor of Steve... iPhone 4(for)S(teve) or iPhone for Steve. But that's just my feeling. I would also like to contribute to the discussion. Maybe the iPhone 4S was a disappointment for some, but I really don't see it that way. I really like its design and really why not change the design. More importantly, what's inside isn't it? :) at least that's my opinion. Apparently, some iPhone 4 owners will also be disappointed because, as I have already heard from some quarters, that if someone has an iPhone 4S and they have an iPhone 4, then there is no difference, that they have the latest technological gadget. But for me, let him say what he wants. So was the 3G and 3GS. I also had an iPhone 3GS and heard countless times, "You have the iPhone 3G?". But why a bigger display? I would hate to carry almost an "iPad" in my pocket. After watching the keynote over and over again, I decided that I would definitely trade my "old" iPhone for the 4S, and I'd be happy to. I was impressed by the 8MP camera and I've liked the retina display for a long time. I was equally impressed with Siri. I'm really looking forward to it, even if it's not in Czech yet. On the other hand, it will force me to improve my English, at least in what will be needed to use it. And finally, I can't wait for all the goodies of iOS5. So why change the look of the phone when it's great and the most important thing about the phone is the functionality :) But as I say, it's just my opinion :)
I would just like to say that design is not only about "looks" and beauty, but comfort is also hidden under that term. Of course, everything is subjective, but when someone writes that they wanted a new design, they don't necessarily mean that they want something nicer or simply different.

Well, I would actually carry the "television" in my pocket. I would like a 4-4,3″ display. In fact, 4" seems reasonable to me, and 4,3" is extreme for my hand. :-) It is super! But the design alone would be enough. I am not on the branch of the introduced 4S. Not much has changed for me. The only benefit is perhaps the hardware boost, but you probably won't know it in practice. Siri doesn't work for me - in the vast majority of cases I need to control the iPhone silently. 8 Mpx camera - see comments from others, i.e. the quality of the photos does not depend on the number of pixels. On the other hand, the better brightness of the lens will probably help a lot. The stabilizer - I'm a bit skeptical about it - the gyroscope detects the rotation of the iPhone in three axes, but if my hands shake, the iPhone shakes too, but it doesn't rotate around the rear axis. :-) So what about that? :-) The last things are no longer important for me, I don't need 64 GB of memory. The biggest benefit will be iOS 5. And it will run even on older models. Well, of course, I'll probably buy a 4S anyway and sell the "four", but it would be hard for me to rationally justify it to someone, so I won't even brag about it.
Doesn't the gyroscope help with vibrations? So why is it also used in cameras such as Panasonic? Why is it used for flying machines to keep the machine in a smoother flight? The gyroscope is ideal for this, believe me, it just depends on how sensitive and tuned it is. In Panasonic, they stabilize the lens itself with it and it works great
You obviously don't know anything about gyroscopes, so don't try to explain it. For ordinary people, what I wrote above is enough - the gyroscope can sense angular changes in three axes. It can't sense the rear position change in space in the sense of displacement of the object, only its rotation. And that is also the reason why it can help flying machines in stabilizing their flight. I don't know how to solve Panasonic's stabilization, but I know about several methods of image stabilization used in lenses, and none of them are based on the gyroscope principle. I'm not saying that I know them all, it's not my subject, but I know a lot about gyroscopes in relation to aviation.

Probably the same reaction as mine. I was also expecting something completely new revolutionary. However, when I thought about it, basically why. I have an ip4 and am perfectly happy with it and the design is basically timeless so why change it. So definitely why change it after a year. As already mentioned, it is also advantageous because of the accessories. Apple always made news once every 2 years, and after a year of "upgrade" it corresponds to this interval as well.
But even so, I think that Siri will be quite revolutionary…. but only time will tell.

And the fact that I will buy an iPhone for 20 doesn't mean that I don't want to text and that I will only make calls. Sometimes you just can't even call and you have to write messages. I have never been particularly a fan of the bitten apple and I don't even want to praise it above all else... simply every system has its pros and cons. However, I simply wouldn't want another phone other than the iPhone because I know that the investment of 20 for this phone is worth it... and in a word: design, reliability, speed, simplicity, clarity... that's what I appreciate about it!

The iP4/s design is very similar to the Macbook Pro model range (edges to sides) and until the introduction of the iPad2, it perfectly matched the iPad1. As for the design of the previous iP models, yes, I liked it too until I bought the iP4. The phone is smaller thanks to the straight edges and significantly thinner, and in the pocket the difference is very noticeable compared to the predecessor.
I'm not worried about the size, even in that pocket the rounded edges were nicer. And I have to say that the round shape sat better in my hand. Then when I took four, the phone slipped out of my hand several times - precisely because of the edges that functioned as rails. But otherwise, I'm basically not against the design of the four, I like it, but the previous one just had something wrong with it. If the new model were in the aluminum unibody style, it would match the current Apple products. Now I have an old white Macbook, with which the white 3GS matched me beautifully. I hesitated for a long time with the four, waited a few months for the white version, but finally bought the black one. Now I have a new MBA to go with it. The 3GS is already out of the house, it's the last one left, so I have 3 things with quite different designs, which makes me a little sad.
For me, the 4GS was no disappointment, on the contrary, the 4G with the antenna was a disappointment, so I stayed with my 3Gs and now I will go to the 4GS in white.
I will definitely buy an iPhone only once every two years with the S mark!

When the iTunes beta was released, it was clear that there would only be one phone. I didn't expect anything else even before that. The equipment is very nice, but there is one disappointing thing; and that's battery life :(
The iP4S didn't really disappoint me, on the contrary, I was relieved when they announced "only" the iP4S, because if they had announced a five with a bigger display and a different shape, they would have pissed me off, because the iP4 and S have, in my opinion, the best design ever, and if I had to change something for the 5, it would be by 1,5. reduce the thickness by 2,3 mm, but in my opinion, the best thing to do would be to completely remove the sim card, reduce the processor and keep the same dimensions, maybe even condense the pixels and make a sharper retina. To remove the SIM card, it would be luxurious if you could buy a service from the operator, bring home the installation package and just load the SIM card via iTunes :) and also if you could load SIM cards, for example 10, 4, 4... and then just switch the SW via which SIM card, what to do , same as with email accounts. This would be a hit with a lot of managers and normal people. If they also miniaturize everything inside, they have more space for the battery. I will definitely go for the iP1S depending on what VF announces the price. Alternatively, what will the price be directly on the apple store website. And finally, I would like to point out to the article that the A800 has 5Ghz and not 2Mhz, because the A4 is basically 4x the A800, so correct it. If A4 had 4Mhz, it is not competitive at all. And also what did you all expect them to release for an iP when the release of the iP5S, or in the form in which it was, could have been expected, whether it was called 2S or 6, it doesn't matter, but the iPad4 showed new HW, so it was expected that the new iP would show the same thing... simply this is a logical step, moreover, if Apple does not have the A4 in hand "yet", there is no reason to make a completely new device. I am also satisfied as a SIRI bonus and that is probably the biggest reason for selling the iPXNUMX and buying the iPXNUMXS.
Yes, the A4 is clocked at 1 GHz, however it is underclocked to 800 MHz. And you see, he is still competitive. In the same way, the processors of all previous models are underclocked.
The exception is iPads, where the processors are ticking "fully".

In terms of design, the iPhone 4 is precise. This is probably why Apple saw no reason to change the design of the iPhone 4S. The overall "massage" of the brain was very impressive. People at the October 4th Keynote were just waiting for the iPhone 5. The Magic Five was what they were waiting for, on a mass scale. They also expected something new with the five - design, etc. Actually, they didn't even know why. But the pressure of what was circulating on the Internet about the iPhone 5 was simply enormous and people succumbed to it. They wanted to experience the same revolution as at the presentation of the iPhone 4. But what should be changed when the iPhone 4 is perfect in terms of design and performance? Therefore, Apple has plenty of time to come out with the iPhone 5 and a redesigned design. At the moment, Apple already has the iPhone 5 prototype and is fully working on its finalization. Apple is always two years ahead of the world, as written in the book "How Steve Jobs Thinks".
Disappointment came when Apple introduced "only" the iPhone 4S at the Keynote. At this point, people experienced disappointment. But why? Because they were simply expecting a "five" with a new design, etc. They wanted to experience a revolution again like when the iPhone 4 was introduced. Because of this disillusionment, people will take longer to absorb the iPhone 4S. In the end, they will find out that Apple made this prudent move, because the iPhone 4 was and is perfect, and the iPhone 4S is "just" its logical outcome and tweak, just as OS X Snow Leopard is a tweak of Leopard :) What do you think? I have an iPhone 4 and if I can exchange it for a 4S for a lot of extra money, I'll go for it :)

the biggest pleasure for 4s is 8gb iP4 :) of course, God willing, it will be offered in our unseen regions and for an adequate price (50 euros).
