For many years, MacBooks had an iconic element that distinguished them from the competition at first glance. On the back of the display they had a glowing logo of a bitten apple. Of course, thanks to this, everyone was able to recognize at first glance what kind of device it was. In 2016, however, the giant decided on a rather fundamental change. The glowing apple has definitely disappeared and has been replaced by an ordinary logo that acts like a mirror and only reflects light. Apple growers did not welcome this change with enthusiasm. Apple thus deprived them of a relatively iconic element that was inextricably linked to a number of Apple laptops.

Of course, he had good reasons for this step. One of Apple's main goals at the time was to bring the thinnest possible laptop to the market, thanks to which it could significantly increase its portability. In addition, we have seen several other changes. For example, Apple has removed all ports and replaced them with universal USB-C/Thunderbolt, keeping only the 3,5mm jack. He also promised success from the transition to the ultimately sharply criticized and highly malfunctioning keyboard with a butterfly mechanism, which was supposed to play a smaller role in thinning due to its smaller key travel. Apple laptops went through quite significant changes at that time. But this does not mean that we will never see the glowing Apple logo again.

The chances of a return are now the highest

As we mentioned above, although Apple has already definitively said goodbye to the glowing Apple logo, paradoxically its return is now quite expected. In the period in question, the Cupertino giant made a number of mistakes that apple fans have blamed for years. Apple laptops from 2016 to 2020 faced huge criticism and were practically unusable for some fans. They suffered from poor performance, extreme overheating and a highly malfunctioning keyboard. If we add to that the absence of basic ports and the subsequent need to invest in reducers and hubs, it is more or less clear why the Apple community reacted in this way.

Fortunately, Apple realized its earlier mistakes and openly admitted them by taking a few steps back. A clear example is the redesigned MacBook Pro (2021), where the giant tried to correct all the mentioned errors. This is what makes these laptops so popular and successful. Not only are they equipped with the new professional M1 Pro/M1 Max chips, but it also comes with a larger body, which has allowed the return of some connectors and the SD card reader. At the same time, the cooling itself is far better handled. It is these steps that give a clear signal to the fans. Apple is not afraid to take a step back or come up with a slightly rougher MacBook, which also gives apple lovers hope for the return of the iconic glowing apple.

Future MacBooks may bring about a change

Unfortunately, the fact that Apple is not afraid to take a step back does not mean that the return of the glowing Apple logo is really real. But the chances are quite possibly higher than you might have originally expected. In May 2022, Apple registered a rather interesting one with the US Patent Office patent, which outlines a possible combination of current and earlier approaches. Specifically, he mentions that the back logo (or other structure) could act as a mirror and reflect light, while still having a backlight. So it is more than clear that the giant is at least toying with a similar idea and trying to come up with an optimal solution.
