The trend of flexible smartphones is slowly growing. The biggest promoter in this case is the South Korean Samsung, which is expected to introduce the fourth generation of the Galaxy Z product line, which includes smartphones with a flexible display. But if we look, we will find that Samsung still has practically no competition. On the other hand, there has been talk of the arrival of a flexible iPhone for a long time. It is mentioned by various leakers and analysts, and we could even see several registered patents from Apple that solve the ailments of flexible displays.

However, as we have already mentioned, Samsung has practically no competition so far. Of course, we would find some alternatives on the market - for example, the Oppo Find N - but they simply cannot boast the same popularity as the Galaxy Z phones. Apple fans are therefore waiting to see if Apple can accidentally come up with something groundbreaking. But for now, it looks like the Cupertino giant is not too keen on presenting his own piece. Why is he still waiting?

Do flexible phones make sense?

Arguably the biggest obstacle to the arrival of a flexible iPhone is whether the trend of flexible smartphones in general is sustainable. Compared to classic phones, they do not enjoy such popularity and are rather a great toy for connoisseurs. On the other hand, it is necessary to perceive one thing. Like himself Samsung mentioned, the trend of flexible phones is constantly growing - for example, in 2021 the company sold 400% more such models than in 2020. In this regard, the growth of this category is undeniable.

But there is another problem in this as well. According to some experts, Apple is facing another important question, according to which it is not clear whether this growth is even sustainable. In short, it could be summed up by the fact that there are fears about the complete collapse of the entire category, which could bring with it a number of problems and lost money. Of course, phone manufacturers are companies like any other, and their main task is to maximize profit. Therefore, putting a lot of money into the development of a specific device, which may not even have that much interest, is therefore a relatively risky step.

The time of flexible phones is yet to come

Others hold a slightly different opinion. Instead of worrying about the sustainability of the whole trend, they count on the fact that the time of flexible smartphones is yet to come, and only then will the technological giants show themselves in the best light. In that case, for the time being, companies like Apple are being inspired by the competition - specifically Samsung - trying to learn from its mistakes and then come up with the best they can offer. After all, this theory is currently the most widespread and most apple growers have been following it for several years.

It is therefore a question of what the future holds for the flexible phone market. Samsung is the uncontested king for now. But as we mentioned above, this South Korean giant has no real competition for the time being and is more or less going for itself. In any case, we can count on the fact that as soon as other companies enter this market, flexible phones will start moving forward significantly more. At the same time, Apple has not positioned itself as an innovator for years, and it is rather unlikely to expect such a change from it, which also affects its main product. Do you have faith in flexible phones, or do you think the whole trend will crumble like a house of cards?
