If there is something that Apple users have been clamoring for for literally years, it is clearly an improvement to the virtual assistant Siri. Siri has been part of Apple's operating systems for several years, during which time it has become an integral part of them. Although it is a rather interesting helper that can be helpful in many ways, it still has its flaws and imperfections. After all, this brings us to the main problem. Siri is falling further and further behind its competition, in the form of Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. She thus became the target of criticism and ridicule at the same time.

But as it looks so far, Apple does not have any major improvements. Well, at least for now. On the contrary, the arrival of new HomePods has been talked about for years. At the very beginning of 2023, we saw the introduction of the 2nd generation HomePod, and for some time there has been talk about the potential arrival of a completely redesigned HomePod with a 7″ display. In addition, this information was confirmed today by one of the most accurate analysts, Ming-Chi Kuo, according to whom the official presentation will take place at the beginning of 2024. Apple fans, however, are asking themselves a fundamental question. Why is Apple preferring HomePods instead of finally improving Siri? This is exactly what we are going to shed light on together now.

Siri doesn't. I prefer the HomePod

If we look at this whole matter from the perspective of the user, then a similar step may not make complete sense. What's the point of bringing another HomePod to the market if the fundamental lack is precisely Siri, which represents a software deficiency? If we actually see the mentioned model with a 7″ display, it can be expected that it will still be a very similar product, but with the primary emphasis on managing a smart home. Although such a device can help someone immensely, the question is still whether it would not be better to pay attention to an apple virtual assistant. In the eyes of Apple, however, the situation is diametrically different.

While Apple users would like to see a better Siri, which would affect practically all of their Apple devices, from iPhones to Apple Watches to HomePods, it is better for Apple to bet on the opposite strategy, that is, the one it is currently using. The requests of users are not always the best for the company as such. If the giant from Cupertino presents a brand new HomePod, which according to current leaks and speculations should stand out, it is more or less clear that this represents additional sales revenue for Apple. If we ignore the costs and other related expenses, it is quite possible that the novelty could generate a decent profit. On the contrary, a fundamental improvement of Siri cannot bring anything like that. At least not in the short term.

After all, as some directly point out, the wishes of the users do not always coincide with the demands of the shareholders, which can play a rather crucial role precisely in this regard. As we mentioned above, a new product can bring a lot of money in the short term, especially if it is a complete novelty. Apple is then a company like any other – a company doing business for the purpose of profit, which is still the primary attribute and overall driving force.
