Rumors about the expected iPhone 7 are circulating across the internet and according to the latest report of the daily The Wall Street Journal could the upcoming Apple smartphone finally be stripped of the basic 16GB capacity, which would be replaced by a 32GB variant.

An iPhone with a 16GB capacity is no longer a suitable choice for most users today. Although there is a segment of people who use their smartphone exclusively for calling, sending messages and possibly visiting the Internet, many users struggle hard to fit everything they need from apps to high-definition videos into the 16GB model. Although there is an option to transfer content to iCloud, which was explained by the head of marketing Phil Schiller, but even then it is not very ideal.

There is no doubt that people buy the basic variant mainly because of the price, which is understandably the cheapest compared to other models. However, with the expected iPhone 7, the 32GB version will be offered with the cheapest price tag, writes Joanna Sternová from The Wall Street Journal.

For most users, this will mean a certain liberation. The current flagships 6S and 6S Plus have a capacity of 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. The first variant is - as already mentioned - insufficient, 128 GB is aimed at more "professional" users, and the golden middle (in this case) is unnecessarily bulky for many users.

32GB seems to be the "optimal" way to go for most regular users who don't just want to make phone calls with their iPhone. If Apple finally decides to deploy a higher minimum capacity in the iPhone, it is not yet clear whether the following variants will remain as before, i.e. 64 and 128 GB. Considering the iPad Pro, an iPhone could even come out with a 256GB capacity.
