PressReader is a brand new newspaper reader that allows you to read current editions of newspapers from around the world. Just launch the PressReader app and download just the newspapers you're interested in.
The PressReader application contains 1500 of the world's most popular press titles from around the world. You will find newspapers in exact form in high quality. You can zoom in on the newspaper as much as you need using familiar gestures. If an exact digital copy with full graphics of the newspaper does not suit you, then you can also read the article in text-only form.
You can find the PressReader application completely free in the App Store and there are also some Czech titles, such as MF Dnes, Lidové noviny or Rytmus Života. You can download up to 7 issues of any newspaper for free, but after that you pay €0,79 for each new issue.
PressReader was released both in an iPhone version and also in a version for the iPad, where it makes more sense. The application is at least interesting and I can definitely recommend it to download. Could this be the future of printing? I do not think so. In this form, it is convenient to have the newspaper physically in your hand, for an iPad or iPhone, special formatting would be needed and not just a classic "scan".
Thank you very much for the info. I downloaded to my iPad and already sent my wife yesterday's RHYTHM OF LIFE - super quality about 30 MB. Just go on.
Just to add - a similar application is currently being prepared by the company E-Book Systems. But with the difference that it will not only be a paper-to-web conversion, but an application with additional interactive functions. And among the titles provided there will not be a lack of Czech titles, such as the EURO weekly, which already uses the services of E-Book Systems (including mine).
I don't know of any better form of newspaper in electronic form than this one. The program made by Hospodářské noviny or ČT24 or simply reading the news on online magazines never forced me to read those articles. The only thing I read is the printed newspaper that we get at school.
But this reader brings me a perfect copy of the newspaper, it's easy to navigate, it's also presented with graphics, so not only reading txt files, but also images, design and the overall concept of the newspaper, which makes reading more comfortable and fun. And it's more convenient than a newspaper that folds badly.
I can't think of a better concept to give a person the information found in newspapers in electronic form.
Now I can comfortably read the newspaper in the morning with my coffee without spilling it or getting in the way with its size. And paired with an iPad, it's amazing.
And what do you say about the price of €0,79?
So it will be a lot for me and I think it will go well again.
Pay almost double for MF? Why? Save on printing, nature is not destroyed and I still have to pay much more?
Otherwise, I really like it, I would definitely welcome Apetit magazine in this form.
But those in digital form, at the time when everyone started it, ended. :-(
The point is that Apple does not allow a lower price than 0,79 + 30 percent of every app/issue sold goes to apple….so it pays to subscribe rather than buy in bulk…unfortunately
Irishman: exactly - that reminds me of the situation with the CD - it was also expensive as a pig, nothing was sold and then the publishers were crying over spilled milk :-) I don't understand why I should pay two cents for MF where there is an article "... more in tomorrow MF Dnes"
as Buffet said that this payment is the future, I think the opposite - it will be paid by a minimum of people (e.g. WSJ professionals, etc.), but this idea is wrong in my opinion.
Who makes that content anyway? Primo Mafra? I would be interested in that…
Yes, the content is made directly by mafra, they also have a version for computers, see pressdisplay.com (for a few years now)
I confirm that the download of 7 titles is free. With the iPad version, there is a problem with the purchase of paid, i.e. other, newspapers. I only have a US account, and when I make a purchase NOT ONLINE, it redirects to the iTunes account, the amount of $0,99 is deducted, nothing happens, when I make the purchase again for the same title, the price is deducted again and nothing. Buying ONLINE from the manufacturer's website, i.e. outside the AppStore, works well. Registration is required and payment by CZ debit Visa card is accepted. Dnesni Lidove noviny was available for download at 4:00 this morning (an info email also arrived), the Czech version of MF Dnes was available for download at 6:00, the Prague version of MF is not available at this time. The program sometimes crashes when zooming on a page where there is a large bitmap (about 1/2 of the page, but otherwise satisfaction.
And how much do newspapers cost in the US? If the €0,79 isn't enough for their newspaper, it's a lot for ours...
Unfortunately, the latest version 2.0 freezes and crashes. It looks like if I don't fix it, it's actually unusable.
