Apple picker To diversify our editorial articles, from time to time we will also bring you a review of some gadgets that can be added to various Apple devices in the form of accessories. This week we decided to bring you a silicone holder and speaker in one for Apple iPhone 4 / 3GS / 3G.
What is it really about?
In an imaginative design reminiscent of an old gramophone, the speaker stand offers solid sound amplification in its small form factor. The manufacturer states up to 13 decibels, and it should be noted that it really is a noticeable change (approx. 2,5 times greater amplification). Unfortunately, we didn't have an accurate measuring device available for testing, but it's safe to say that this silicone passive amplifier will give you better sound than you'd expect from such a small, unobtrusive device, and it doesn't need an external battery.
How does it work?
A stand is available for example <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/Odstoupeni_od_smlouvy_EN.pdf?v=1595420299" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">HERE</a> in stylish green and black. It can handle the holder function with any version of your iPhone, but the amplifier function was primarily designed only for the Apple iPhone 4. However, it is also compatible with older iPhones, iPhone 3G and 3GS versions. In the case of use with an older version of the iPhone, it is necessary to fix the device in the stand upside down - the speaker is located on the other side of the bottom panel. Of course, when the device is not playing and you have it purely as a stand, the placement position is irrelevant.
The stand as such is made of high-quality silicone and has a green color very similar to the texture of the "shining Fukushima frog" :) It should be noted that the silicone is very pleasant to the touch. At the same time, it is also very light, so you can take it with you everywhere – e.g. in a backpack or in a jacket pocket.
Another advantage of the stand and speaker in one is that there is a gap cut out at the bottom, for the possibility of connecting the power cable even while running. On the other hand, it is somewhat clumsy that if you carry your iPhone in a case or case, you have to remove the phone from the case before using the stand
How does it play?
As it was already written in the introduction, the speaker amplifies the sound of your iPhone by up to 13 decibels. Despite the aforementioned absence of a precise measuring device, we all agreed here in the editorial office that this amplifier reliably amplified all the test recordings we played on it.
Volume is one thing, sound quality is another. Thanks to the "horn" shaped speaker, the amplified sound does not get very far from the speaker itself. We also found the occasional "tinny" sound when using this amp on very bass heavy recordings. In that case, however, it was enough to turn down the volume of the phone a little and everything was fine again.
All in all, if you want to listen to music while doing something else, this simple and elegant amplifier should give you the power you need.
Verdict
The portable silicone speaker stand for iPhone offers a smart and compact way to amplify the sound of your device. This accessory probably really adds up to 13 decibels to the music you are listening to. So if you're looking for something that you can put in your pocket and occasionally play something louder, then this stand is for you!
