It was 2003 and Steve Jobs was criticizing the subscription model for services. 20 years later, we slowly don't know anything else anymore, we subscribe not only to the streaming ones, but also cloud storage or content expansion in applications and games. But how not to get lost in subscriptions, have an overview of them and maybe even save money?

If you want to know where your digital content money is going, it's a good idea to check your subscriptions from time to time to see if you're paying for something you're no longer using. At the same time, it is nothing complicated.

Manage subscriptions on iOS

  • Go to Settings.
  • Completely at the top select your name.
  • Choose Subscription.

After a moment of loading, you will see here the subscriptions you are currently using, as well as those that have recently expired. Alternatively, you can access the same menu by clicking on your profile picture anywhere in the App Store.

Save with Apple One

Apple itself encourages you here to save on your subscriptions. This is, of course, a subscription to its services, namely Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and extended iCloud storage (50 GB for an individual and 200 GB for a family plan). If you calculate it, with an individual tariff that will cost you 285 CZK per month, you will save 167 CZK per month than if you subscribed to all these services individually. For the family tariff, you will pay CZK 389 every month, saving you CZK 197 per month. With the family plan, you can also make Apple One available to up to five other people. All services that you try for the first time are free for one month.

It should be noted that Family Sharing does not only work with Apple services. If you have Family Sharing enabled, many apps and games offer it these days, usually for a standard subscription price. This is also why it pays to have the option turned on in Subscriptions Share new subscriptions. Unfortunately, services such as Netflix, Spotify, OneDrive and those purchased outside the App Store will not be shown here. Also, you won't see the subscriptions that someone shares with you. So if you are part of a family and, for example, Apple Music is paid for by its founder, even if you enjoy the service, you won't see it here.

To see subscriptions shared with your family, go to Settings -> Your name -> Family sharing. This is where the section is located Shared with your family, in which you can already see the services that you can enjoy as part of family sharing. Then when you click on the given section, you will also see with whom which service is shared. This is especially important with iCloud, when you don't want to let every member of your family into the shared storage, which doesn't have to be just real family members, but maybe just friends. Apple hasn't really addressed this yet.
