Native Mac applications also include QuickTime Player – a player and editor for basic video editing. Although many users today prefer third-party applications, QuickTime should not be neglected. In the first part, we will cover the absolute basics.

QuickTime Player on Mac is mainly used to play video files in *.mov format. As far as playback control is concerned, QuickTime Player is no different from other applications of this type. To open a file in QuickTime Player, just double-click on a compatible file in the Finder, or right-click on it and select Open in Application -> QuickTime Player. For older media files, QuickTime will perform the conversion before playing. At the bottom of the application window, you'll find controls for playback, AirPlay, sharing, or switching to Picture-in-Picture mode.

To play a video in Picture-in-Picture mode, click on the appropriate icon (see gallery), you can freely move the video window around the screen of your Mac and change its size by dragging one of its corners. To start playing a file in a continuous loop, click View -> Loop in the toolbar at the top of your Mac screen. In this way, you can start replaying both video and audio files. To change the screen size in QuickTime Player on your Mac, click View in the toolbar at the top of your Mac screen. You can also change the size of the window by dragging one of its corners, or switch to full screen view by clicking the green button in the upper left corner. If you're playing a movie with subtitles in QuickTeam Player on Mac, you can view them by clicking View -> Subtitles.
