In our series on native Apple apps, we'll continue to focus on Photos on Mac today. In today's episode, we will focus on working with albums - their creation, management and working with images in albums.

By default, you'll find several preset albums in the Photos app - we briefly mentioned them in the first part of the series. But you can create albums yourself in the Photos app and add photos and videos to them, and one item can be placed in multiple albums. You can switch between individual albums in the panel on the left side of the application window and open them by clicking. You can also sort albums into folders - to display albums in a folder, click the triangle next to the folder name. To create a new empty album, click File -> New Album on the toolbar at the top of the screen, or you can move the cursor to My Albums on the sidebar and click the “+” button. If you want to create an album from a group of photos, first select the desired photos, hold down the Ctrl key, click on one of the selected photos and choose Add to -> New album. The second option is to select the photos and select File -> New Album with selection from the toolbar at the top of the screen.

If you want to set a cover photo for an album, first open the album by double-clicking it, select an image, and select Image -> Set as cover photo from the toolbar at the top of the screen. To add photos to the created album, first select the images you want to work with. Then either drag them to one of the albums in the sidebar, or you can also Ctrl-click on one of the photos and choose Add to -> [album name]. You can also add photos from folders in the Finder to albums by dragging the folder to the album in the sidebar. If you selected "Copy items to Photos library" in the Photos app preferences, the photos will be added to your Photos library. To save storage space, you can delete photos from a folder in the Finder. To sort photos in albums by date or title, click View -> Sort on the top bar and then choose a sort method. You can also sort photos manually by dragging. If you want to remove the selected photo from the album, select Image -> Remove from album in the top bar. The image will only be removed from the album, it will remain in the photo library. To cancel the deletion, click Edit -> Back in the top bar. Photos cannot be deleted from preset dynamic albums.

To manage albums, click My Albums in the sidebar. To rename a selected album, hold down the Ctrl key, click the selected album, choose Rename Album, and enter a new name. You can serve albums by dragging one album to another, to delete an album hold down the Ctrl key, click on the selected album in the sidebar and choose Delete Album. The album will be removed from both the library and iCloud, but the photos will remain in the photo library. In the Photos app, you can also create dynamic albums that will automatically group photos based on set criteria. To create a dynamic album, click File -> New Dynamic Album on the bar at the top of the screen and enter the required criteria. If you want to group your albums into folders, click My Albums in the sidebar, then choose File -> New Folder, enter a folder name, and drag and drop albums into it. Shared albums cannot be moved to folders.
