A new version of Ulysses has appeared in the App Store for iPhones and iPads and in the Mac App Store. However, it does not yet bring any news, it is only free, and this is because the developer studio Soulmen has decided to switch to a subscription model. Therefore, it is now necessary to pay monthly/annual fees for using the application.

Ulysses now costs 99 crowns per month, or 839 crowns per year. Once you have purchased the subscription, the application is automatically unlocked for you on all devices - Mac, iPhone and iPad - and of course synchronization works between them via iCloud.

At the same time, Ulysses also offers a student plan, under which student users pay 329 crowns for a six-month subscription. If you are not familiar with Ulysses and do not want to start a subscription right away, you can use the fourteen-day trial period. After that, however, the application "locks" again without a subscription.

The reason for switching to a subscription is simple: developers develop a professional application, and in order to be able to provide regular updates, fixes and overall support in the future, they also need to ensure a regular flow of money. IN blog post Max Seelemann, co-founder of Soulmen studio, explains the subscription decision in great detail, admitting that it was the hardest decision of his development career.

But instead of focusing on big updates to attract new users in Soulmen, they prefer to have space and resources for smaller and more regular updates to respond to the demands of existing users.

Considering that Ulysses has been relatively expensive up until now, especially if you bought the app for both iOS and Mac, Soulmen is offering a special price - a lifetime discount on an annual subscription for 629 crowns. Which could be a very nice rate for many people for an app they use daily.

Users who have purchased Ulysses recently have another offer. Those who purchased for Mac can use the application for free for the next up to 12 months, when purchasing only for iOS it is up to 6 months, always depending on the date of purchase. In any case, Soulmen tries to accommodate as much as possible to those who have already paid for its applications.

It's also important to mention that the original paid versions have disappeared from the App Store and Mac App Store, and both apps need to be downloaded again. This time, Ulysses is already free everywhere, and upon launch you will be greeted by a subscription overview screen. Once you choose one, you'll immediately see your familiar library uploaded from iCloud.
