Skype is getting some big changes this holiday season. These will concern not only the design of its desktop version, but also several completely new functions. What changes will the latest Skype update bring?

The Skype communication platform has been around for fifteen years, but we had to wait until this year for the call recording function. This feature should be included in an app update later this month. With cloud storage, recorded calls will be accessible across devices and platforms – including Linux distributions. Of course, all participants in the call will be properly informed about the start of recording, you will be able to record video and shared screens. This is the first time that Skype will allow its users to record calls - until now people had to rely on various third-party applications.

But this is not the only news that will be included in the "holiday" update of Skype. Microsoft has decided to carry out a complete redesign of the desktop client for PC users, which will make the application resemble the mobile version of Skype. During the last year, careful testing of the new version took place, which, according to Microsoft's plan, should be installed by all users of Skype for PC by the first of September. It will also include a number of functions that users of the mobile version may have known. In group chat, sharing will be easier than before, the update will also include a gallery where users will be able to better search for shared links, documents and photos.

Microsoft also plans to enrich its Skype application with read receipts or the ability to create private conversations, protected by the Signal protocol, which will ensure reliable and secure end-to-end encryption. Most of the newly implemented changes were implemented based on numerous feedbacks from users who were not very satisfied with the previous updates.
