Apple responded to the latest statement by the US Department of Justice, which last in the case of electronic books stated that the California company introduced stricter rules for apps in the App Store because of Amazon. Apple understandably doesn't like it, and the plaintiffs allegedly just want to gain a significant advantage for Amazon…

Apple's lawyer, Orin Snyder, addressed the US government as follows:

The plaintiffs want such measures that would give Amazon a significant competitive advantage over Apple — an advantage it neither owns nor deserves.

Now that the trial is over and the judgment has been entered, this is not the time to decide a series of entirely new legal and factual issues based on extra-record evidence that significantly postdates the events of the litigation.

So far, we cannot record any significant progress in the case of electronic books, the price of which Apple was supposed to artificially increase with the help of secret agreements with other publishers. However, now the Justice Department and Apple are throwing the ball between themselves, and both actors are scheduled to meet with Judge Cote today to discuss the next course of action.

In addition to the Justice Department's proposal, which requires Apple to allow links to other stores to be placed in its apps and also prevent it from entering into agency model agreements for years to come, the Apple company also faces a fine of up to $500 million in damages.
