You have probably already decided where to get the right cable, reducer. Our little guide should help you.

mini DisplayPort

Mini DisplayPort is a smaller version of Display Port, which is an audio-visual interface used in Apple personal computers. The company announced the start of development of this interface in the fourth quarter of 2008, and now Mini DiplayPort is used as standard in all current versions of Macintosh computers: MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini and Mac Pro. You can also find this interface in common laptops from various manufacturers (eg Toshiba, Dell or HP).
Unlike the previous versions of Mini-DVI and Micro-DVI, Mini DisplayPort has the ability to transmit video in a resolution of up to 2560×1600 (WQXGA). When using the right adapter, the Mini DisplayPort can be used to display images on VGA, DVI or HDMI interfaces.

Mini-DVI

The mini-DVI connector is used, for example, with older iMacs or older MacBooks White / Black. You will also find it on Mac minis that were manufactured in 2009. It is a digital alternative to the Mini-VGA interface. Its size is somewhere between classic DVI and the smallest Micro-DVI.
In October 2008, Apple announced that it would prefer its new Mini DisplayPort interface instead of Mini-DVI going forward.

Micro-DVI

Micro-DVI is a video interface that was originally used in Asus computers (U2E Vista PC). Later, however, it also appeared in the MacBook Air (1st generation) from around 2008. It is smaller than the Mini-DVI port that was used in sister MacBook models at the time. Both basic adapters (Micro-DVI to DVI and Micro-DVI to VGA) were included in the MacBook Air package. The Micro-DVI port was officially replaced by the newer Mini DisplayPort at the Apple conference on October 14, 2008.

Mini VGA

Mini-VGA connectors are used on some laptops and other systems instead of classic VGA outputs. Although most systems only used the VGA interface, Apple and HP incorporated this port into some of their devices. Namely, mainly for Apple iBooks and old iMacs. Mini-DVI and especially Mini DisplayPort interfaces have gradually pushed the Mini-VGA connector into the background.
