Squirrels are one of the most widespread species of wild animals. When you see them hopping between trees or climbing from tree to tree, you usually don't stop to think about their behavior. After all, they are just rodents who, apart from attacking bird feeders, usually look after their own business. However, a new game from publisher Noodlecake paints the shaggy squirrels in a different light. In the game NUTS, you will uncover their mysterious plot.

The game puts you in the role of a novice researcher who is tasked with investigating the behavior of squirrels in a mysterious forest. The research is conducted in two phases. During the day, you will place cameras in the most suitable places around the forest. At night, you will then analyze the obtained footage. You will be guided through the entire research by your superior, who already suspects the squirrels of certain wrongdoings. The most important point of the gameplay should be the choice of exact camera positions, without their help you won't get very far. However, the developers themselves claim that there is no need to constantly think about where to place the cameras. The game is said to be quite benevolent, and ordinary chance often helps you to progress further.

NUTS was born out of a series of weird gaming experiments, at least according to one of the developers, Joon van Hove. The experimental nature of the game is evident not only from the premise itself, but also from the formal processing. The splash screen greets you with distinctive multi-colored graphics accompanied by an atmospheric, adaptive soundtrack. After that, you can get down to the original business, which will offer a smart player several hours of quality entertainment. The game was also released on iOS in mid-January. If you have an Apple Arcade game subscription, you can try it out there too.
