Of course, the expected iPhone 8 (Plus) applied for the floor, but it was subsequently supplemented by two completely revolutionary products. We are, of course, talking about the iPhone X and the AirPower wireless charger. Both products gained unprecedented attention practically immediately, which in the case of the iPhone X became even stronger when it entered the market. On the contrary, the AirPower charger was shrouded in a series of secrets and we still had to wait for its arrival.

The Cupertino giant only came up with a rather shocking statement in March 2019 – it canceled the entire AirPower project because it could not complete it in a reliable and sufficiently high-quality form. But how is it possible that Apple failed to develop its own wireless charger, when the market is literally covered with them, and why might there be no interest in the product even today?
Failed development
As we mentioned above, Apple unfortunately did not manage to complete the development. He failed on what should have been the main advantage of AirPower – the ability to place the device anywhere on the pad to initialize charging, regardless of which Apple device it will be. Unfortunately, the Cupertino giant did not succeed. Conventional wireless chargers work in such a way that there is an induction coil in a specific place on each potential device. Although Apple wanted to differentiate itself from the competition and bring a real shift forward in the field of wireless technology, it unfortunately failed in the final.

This September, it will be 5 years since the introduction of AirPower. But when we return to 2019 Apple statement, when he announced the end of development, we can notice that he mentioned his future ambitions. According to them, Apple continues to believe in wireless technology and will do so to bring a shift in this area. After all, since then, several speculations and leaks have swept through the Apple community, according to which Apple should continue to work on the development of this charger and try to bring it in an alternative form, or successfully complete the original development. But the question remains whether such a product makes any sense at all, and whether it would achieve the expected popularity in the presented form.
Potential (un)popularity
When we take into account the complexity of the overall development, so that it is even possible to achieve the mentioned advantage, i.e. the possibility to place the device anywhere on the charging pad, we can more or less count on the fact that something like this will be reflected in the price itself. That is why the question is whether apple growers would be willing to pay a given amount of money for this premium product. After all, this is still the subject of extensive debates on discussion forums. However, Apple users more or less agree that they have already completely forgotten about AirPower.

At the same time, there are opinions that MagSafe technology can be perceived as the successor to AirPower. In a way, it is a wireless charger with the aforementioned option, where the device can be placed more or less wherever you want. In this particular case, the magnets will take care of the alignment. Everyone has to judge whether this is a sufficient substitute.
