Page iPhoneHellas.gr has been bringing us quality information lately, and hopefully this time too. According to the authors, we should wait of new firmware 2.2 on Friday, November 21, 2008. So we only have 10 days until the release! Personally, I'm most looking forward to turning off autocorrect, rating apps when deleting, and especially downloading podcasts.
And what will the new firmware bring?
- The Google search bar in Safari will be on one line with the site address, currently they are on 2 lines
- Possibility to turn off / on autocorrection
- 461 Japanese emoji icons
- Support for new languages
- Line-in will be active from now on and you will be able to use it through the headphone jack
- The maps will get many interesting features - Google Street View, Google Transit (probably useless in the Czech Republic), searching for the shortest "walking" route (up until now, maps searched for a route only for drivers), location sharing (you will be able to send your location to another user)
- The "Report a problem" or "Tell a friend" buttons will appear on the application sheet in the Appstore on the iPhone, just like in iTunes
- Added option to rate apps when deleted from iPhone
- Ability to download podcasts directly from iPhone
I recently installed 2.1 and already a change? I'll probably stay with 2.1, I like Safari better like this, I've disabled autocorrect by renaming one folder on my iPhone, the new icons are of no use to me, the language too, I'm using US, Line-in - I don't know what it's about, the news in the maps is unusable here, app rating, that's OK, but it's nothing fatal for me and I still watch podcasts on my iPod, nothing too revolutionary for me... I would appreciate other new functions (sending vCards via Bluetooth, email, SMS, copy and paste, etc.)
@_oli: So with copy&paste, I'm slowly starting to think that Apple will present it to us as a perfect feature for the next iPhone :)
I would appreciate a push notification, but alas... :(
So I'm curious :)
anyway, I'm most looking forward to the autocorrect, I can't even see it any other way
what I would like is probably a clear copy and paste, yes, and I would also like to have a differently resolved phone list
and one more thing came to my mind, having the possibility to send data via bluetooth here and there would be nice, but we probably won't get to that
what about the possibility of using a modem?
@el: the option to use an iPhone as a modem is here, are there any applications in Cydia or Installer, if you know of something, please share your experience, I haven't looked after this yet
Yes, of course there are alternatives, but I'm not going to unlock my iPhone. I see no reason for it.
@el: At the moment, Apple has an agreement with AT&T that prohibits internet sharing via the iPhone.. and since this is the "highest" of the alliance, we cannot expect any internet sharing applications on the Appstore.. so only jailbreak..
Well, I'm very disappointed in the list of new features, the only positive is the autocorrection being turned off. The passport copy is for the iPhone generation for my unborn daughter. It's a terrible shame to imagine that this cuddly piece of hardware can use a blue tooth, send business cards, switch applications between each other... I still try to be a positive iPhone geek. I resist Jailbrak, but there will probably be no other way. I just don't know what to do with him :-)
@apple picker: And I really don't understand this. How many did Apple sell in the US, where AT+T operates, and how many in the latter regions? This seriously hinders the effort to get somewhere higher with sales in other markets as well. Personally, I wouldn't mind it being a paid service, even if it's classic Blackberry-like crap. Let us be surprised.
Thanks to the jailbreak, I moved my iPhone much further: SwirlyMMS (I used it once, but otherwise I would have had a hard time and I wouldn't have pictures and text from my friend's vacation on my phone), WeDict (I could add a free EN-CZ dictionary, a translation dictionary and others are only a matter of time before someone creates them), Cycorder (video recording), BossPrefs (lots of tricks through settings, SSH...), CopiercN (copy and paste, I only used it a couple of times, but without it I would have wasted a lot of time rewriting the text twice... ). I could have easily turned off autocorrect. I get to the photos (iPhoto saved them in the wrong resolution). He doesn't talk about other advantages not interpreted and used by me.
If you want a detailed (very simple) and 100% reliable jailbreak guide, write to me on e-mail (petula@sladkej.com), I will send you a PDF of a double sheet from the CHIP magazine, where this and many advantages are perfectly described... By the way, you really do not lose by jailbreaking warranty,,,
_oli, how to get free EN-CZ into WeDict ???
@X-Lorrien: How to add more dictionaries to WeDict hiiir: http://forum.iphone.cz/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6053
@X-Lorrien: Please put the instructions on the net and write the link here... Thx.
