Ondrej Holzman As expected, Apple presented the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at its September keynote. Both models kept the same screen sizes – 4,7 and 5,5 inches respectively – but everything else was, according to Phil Schiller, ditched. For the better. We can especially look forward to the 3D Touch display, which recognizes how hard we press on it, giving iOS 9 a new level of control, as well as significantly improved cameras.
"The only thing that's changed with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is everything," Apple's chief marketing officer Phil Schiller said when introducing the new models. So let's imagine all the news in order.
Both new iPhones have the same Retina display as before, but it is now covered with thicker glass, so the iPhone 6s should be more durable than their predecessors. The chassis is made of aluminum with the designation 7000 series, which Apple already used for the Watch. Mainly because of these two features, the new phones are two tenths of a millimeter thicker and 14 and 20 grams heavier, respectively. A fourth color variant, rose gold, is also coming.
New gestures and ways we control the iPhone
We can call 3D Touch the biggest advance against the current generation. This new generation of multi-touch displays brings more ways in which we can move in the iOS environment, because the new iPhone 6s recognizes the force with which we press on its screen.
Thanks to the new technology, two more are added to the familiar gestures – Peek and Pop. With them comes a new dimension of controlling iPhones, which will react to your touch thanks to the Taptic Engine (similar to the Force Touch trackpad in MacBook or Watch). You will feel the response when you press the display.
The Peek gesture allows easy viewing of all kinds of content. With a light press, for example, you can see a preview of an e-mail in the inbox, and if you want to open it, you just press even harder with your finger, using the Pop gesture, and you have it open. In the same way, you can view, for example, a preview of a link or address that someone sends you. You don't need to move to any other app.

But the 3D Touch display is not only about these two gestures. Also new are quick actions (Quick Actions), when icons on the main screen will respond to a stronger press, for example. You press the camera icon and even before launching the application, you choose whether you want to take a selfie or record a video. On the phone, you can quickly dial your friend this way.
Many more places and applications will be more interactive thanks to 3D Touch. In addition, Apple will also make the new technology available to third-party developers, so we can look forward to more innovative uses in the future. In iOS 9, for example, when you press harder, the keyboard turns into a trackpad, making it easier to move the cursor in the text. Multitasking will be easier with 3D Touch and drawing will be more accurate.
Cameras better than ever
A significant step forward was seen in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus by both cameras. After a few years, the number of megapixels increases. The rear iSight camera is newly equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor, containing improved components and technologies, thanks to which it will offer even more realistic colors and sharper and more detailed photos.
A brand new function is the so-called Live Photos, where when each photo is taken (if the function is active), a short sequence of images from the moments just before and shortly after the photo is taken is also automatically saved. However, it will not be a video, but still a photo. Just press it and it "comes to life". Live photos can also be used as an image on the lock screen.
The rear camera now records video in 4K, i.e. in a resolution of 3840 × 2160 containing over 8 million pixels. On the iPhone 6s Plus, it will be possible to use optical image stabilization even when shooting video, which will improve shots in poor light. Until now, this was only possible when taking pictures.
The front FaceTime camera has also been improved. It has 5 megapixels and will offer Retina flash, where the front display lights up to improve lighting in low light conditions. Because of this flash, Apple even created its own chip, which allows the display to shine three times brighter than usual at a given moment.
Improved viscera
It's no surprise that the new iPhone 6s are equipped with a faster and more powerful chip. A9, the third generation of 64-bit Apple processors, will offer a 70% faster CPU and 90% more powerful GPU than the A8. In addition, the increase in performance does not come at the expense of battery life, because the A9 chip is more energy efficient. However, the battery itself has a smaller capacity in the iPhone 6s than in the previous generation (1715 vs. 1810 mAh), so we will see what real impact this will have on endurance.
The M9 motion co-processor is now also built right into the A9 processor, which allows certain functions to be on all the time while not consuming as much power. An example can be found in summoning the voice assistant with the message "Hey Siri" whenever the iPhone 6s is nearby, which until now was only possible if the phone was connected to the network.
Apple has taken wireless technology one step further, the iPhone 6s has faster Wi-Fi and LTE. When connected to Wi-Fi, the download can be up to twice as fast, and on LTE, depending on the operator's network, it will be possible to download at a speed of up to 300 Mbps.
The new iPhones are also equipped with the second generation of Touch ID, which is just as secure, but twice as fast. Unlocking with your fingerprint should be a matter of seconds.
New colors and a higher price
In addition to the fourth color variant of the iPhones themselves, many new colors have also been added to the accessories. Leather and silicone covers have been given a new color, and Lightning Docks are also newly offered in four variants corresponding to the colors of the iPhones.
Apple begins accepting pre-orders unusually on Saturday, September 12, and the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will go on sale two weeks later, on September 25. But again only in selected countries, which do not include the Czech Republic. The start of sales in our country is not yet known. We can already deduce from the German prices, for example, that the new iPhones will be slightly more expensive than the current ones.
As soon as we know more about the Czech prices, we will inform you. It is also interesting that the gold color is now reserved exclusively for the new 6s/6s Plus series, and you can no longer buy the current iPhone 6 in it. Of course, while supplies last. Even more negative is the fact that even this year Apple was unable to remove the lowest 16GB variant from the menu, so even when the iPhone 6s can record 4K videos and takes a short video for each photo, it provides completely insufficient storage.

Peter is right. There are people who use iPhone only for phone calls, internet and basic functions without shooting 4K video and taking photos.. Of course most people will want to try it, but many of them go to Apple just for reliability :-)

Super 1000x faster processor, 4532x faster graphics chip, but would there be any graphically nice game on the apple store that would use the performance of even 5s? 99% of games are made to be played by as many people as possible, so this doesn't matter anyway.
The iPad Pro looks really amazing with that stylus. And I know that I will never use such a thing. For the new touch 3D, my first impression from the keynote is that it completes the process of complicating the controls in IOS. I don't want to judge it until I try it, but that's how I feel from the phone demos. I have had an iPhone since it officially arrived in the Czech Republic (3G) and I must say that what always fascinated me was the intuitiveness of the controls. A person who has never held an iPhone and is not technically gifted in any way understood the phone after a few minutes. Everything was very natural and intuitive. With touch 3D, it seems to me that you have to learn what a press does where, and everything is much more complicated. And why, in order to save, one or two normal handles? I hope it's just the impression of the keynote and it won't be the case. Apple TV is great, but it probably won't force me to reorganize my set-up when I only have the TV as a display and I use a Mac Mini with a DVB-T tuner, KODI and Plex for everything.
I listened to the entire Keynote yesterday and it was really interesting, nicely presented, I have nothing to complain about. I'm really looking forward to the iPhone. I think that the price is still quite low considering the technical details - EUR 849 for 64 GB is still a good price and I have already pre-ordered it. I have ordered the color Rose Gold because anyone who wants what they want is simply brilliant!
Now I have a gold iPhone 5s 64 Gb, the 6 seemed useless, uninnovative, so there was no reason to buy it. But 6s is gorgeous and won my heart. And I really don't regret paying 849 Euros for it. I would even pay 1000 Euro for it, because it's just an awesome machine.
