Chess in its current form has been popular for over five hundred years. The game still offers unexplored possibilities for millions of players. The number of different games that chess players can play together is many times greater than the number of atoms in the observable universe. And even though the basic version of the game offers such unimaginable possibilities, some video game developers adapt the basic concept of chess and use it in their own creations. One of them is the new Pawnbarbarian from the developer j4nw, which is finally presented in a full version after several years of development.

At its core, Pawnbarbarian is a roguelike in which you'll be traversing dungeons where you'll face increasingly difficult fights with enemies. You yourself will have to try to assume the role of a barbarian chess piece with a horned helmet. She represents the main character of the game. He then moves on a reduced chessboard, which offers five squares to move on each of its sides instead of the classic eight. In the condensed space, you will have to constantly tactic and move correctly on the board in order to both defeat all enemies and to successfully avoid their attacks.

Both movement and attack at the same time provide cards in your gradually developing deck. Each of them represents one of the classic chess pieces and together with it all its possibilities and limitations. So, if you know the rules of chess, you will quickly get into the game. However, as quickly as you can immerse yourself in the game, it can throw you out just as quickly thanks to its difficulty. However, the developer promises that Pawnbarbariana will be learned very quickly even by people who have never played chess in their life. You can also find the game on Steam for a very nice price. So there's not much reason not to try the game, especially if you're a chess fan.
