The worst thing for a technology company is when the owner of the previous generation of its product says that they won't buy the new one because it doesn't bring much innovation. Actually, no, the worst thing is when even the owner of a version even before the previous one says so. And unfortunately, that's exactly what we're seeing now with Apple.

Yes, of course we are referring to iPhones, but enough has already been written about them in comparative articles and reviews, etc. We want to focus more on the Apple Watch. Apple presented three new models at its September event, when the Ultra model naturally received the most attention. But do you remember that we also have SE 2nd generation and Series 8? If not, we probably wouldn't be angry.

Series 8 is just Series 7S

41 or 45mm case, always-on LTPO OLED Retina display, brightness up to 1 nits, blood oxygen sensor, electrical heart rate sensor and third-generation optical heart rate sensor, fast and slow heart rate and irregular heart rhythm notifications, ECG application, international emergency call, emergency SOS call and fall detection S000 SiP chip with 7-bit dual-core processor, W64 wireless chip, U3 chip - these are the specifications of the Apple Watch Series 1. Eights does upgrade the chip to S7, but with the hand on the heart it is just a renumbering, they have car crash detection and a half-baked temperature sensor.

So why invest in the new Apple Watch Series 8 when you own the previous generation, which actually differs only minimally from the previous one, namely in a 1 mm larger case and thus a larger display, an S7 chip instead of the one labeled S6 and faster charging? And why do we actually have the Apple Watch SE 2nd generation here?

If we talk about how Apple introduced too little in the field of iPhones, it introduced too much in the field of Apple Watch. With the elimination of the Apple Watch Series 3, they could only replace their place on the market with the first generation Apple Watch SE without presenting a successor, Apple could forgive the Series 8 completely when it launched the unrivaled Ultra. We would probably forgive him, but from the point of view of marketing, it might start to flow into the shoes of the company, because it needs to attract new models in order to keep its sales growing.

AirPods Pro and more and more

It is similar with the 2nd generation AirPods Pro, which also did not perform well in terms of news. In addition, many of their functions are also accepted by the first generation. At the same time, Apple worked on them for three years to bring only minor and negligible improvements, while the market is already running away. Here we have health functions in the Galaxy Buds2 Pro, which can remind you to stretch a stiff neck, but also the latest news from Anker, which can measure your heart rate or focus on better sleep. At the Apple Online Store, you won't even find the possibility to compare the 2nd generation AirPods Pro with the first, because Apple would admit the minimum improvement here.

Whether in the field of iPhones, Apple Watch or AirPods, it can often be worthwhile to go for the older generation, which is often more advantageous in terms of the price/performance ratio compared to the few innovations that new generations bring. The 13" MacBook Pro is no exception, although at least the MacBook Air saw a complete redesign of the chassis.

I'm quite curious to see how long we can put up with Apple. We are clearly now in a period of stagnation, when improvements are minimal and the overall portfolio rather loses its meaning. Although, again, we must not forget the Apple Watch Ultra, which is a rare hit in the black, and the Dynamic Island in the iPhone 14 Pro, which is something never seen before. But is that enough?
