The tale of NFC, a technology for wireless short-range communication, and the iPhone she tells for several years now. While competitors led by Samsung implemented NFC in their mobile devices a long time ago, Apple still resisted. Before the presentation of the new iPhone, however, reports are starting to multiply again that this time NFC will actually appear in the apple phone.
He was the first to report that the next iPhone, which will be presented on September 9, gets into the NFC, server Wired. According to Wired's own sources, they claim that the new iPhone 6 will have its own payment platform, and it will be the main innovation of Apple's new flagship. NFC should also be part of the payment solution.
Apple's entry into the mobile payments segment has indeed been talked about for a long time, and at the same time, this move would make sense. Tim Cook already at the beginning of this year he admitted, that he is interested in mobile payments, and subsequently discovered news that they are hard at work developing their own solution in Cupertino.
Information from Wired's own sources confirmed also John Paczkowski of Re / code, which in recent days informed also about the fact that a completely new category of products will be introduced along with the new iPhone. According to Paczkowski's sources, the new iPhone will indeed have NFC chips for mobile payments, which will also use Touch ID, which Apple should not be afraid to use for financial transactions after a year of testing (introduced for the first time in the iPhone 5S).
Paczkowski's report was subsequently revived by John Gruber, on his blog Daring Fireball stated that the iPhone 6 will include a new secure part that will be part of the A8 chip and will be able to store credit cards securely. Gruber then expanded his information that it would be nice if the new wearable device from Apple had the same functionality, but he could not confirm it.
Finally, to the usually very well-informed sources from the Apple world mentioned above he added also a leaf Financial Times, according to which Apple is working with the Dutch chip manufacturer NXP to implement NFC. Understandably, not a single company commented on these speculations, but the fairy tale about the iPhone and NFC could really come true this year. Mobile payments are the future in the world of financial transactions, and it would be logical for Apple to bet on an already proven technology.
It's about time, I've been cursing the lack of NFC since the introduction of the 4S. And I bet that Apple fans will suddenly roar with joy, even though they've been saying NFC is useless for years.
It is not a question of whether the iPhone has NFC or not, whether it will emit it or not, but whether Apple will present a meaningful use, because so far, apart from when people try that it works, I have not seen anyone using it for a long time.
Indeed, there are tens or even hundreds of phones with NFC that have never been used. The "iPhone people" did not say that NFC is useless, but they said that NFC in the form in which it is now presented by Android phones is useless. It still has almost no use. Or yes? what kind? Which of these do you use as often as Bluetooth or WiFi?
If Apple really introduces a new iPhone with NFC, which will also serve as a PayPass payment card using a payment card in iTunes, i.e. without the need to visit a bank to "load" the card into the phone, hats off. Anyone who has a credit/debit card connected to iTunes will suddenly have that card on their phone, secured with a fingerprint. What else could you wish for?
On the other hand, I express a little skepticism. Why would Apple do this for free, let's expect fees directly for Apple.
Um, this leaves me cold. I specifically requested a payment card WITHOUT NFC at the bank and I really don't miss it on my iPhone. I have not yet come across anyone in my area who could use this technology (if I am not talking about payment) in any meaningful way. But if it's there, fine... Just one technology that I won't use ;-)
NFC would be nice if it really was a technology meaningfully grasped and working across the spectrum. I would really like to pay by phone, because I really don't like carrying around my wallet with money, cards and similar nonsense. I would really appreciate this. But, I can live without it :-)
I don't think anyone will complain about it.. it's practically unusable and I don't see anyone who would use it.. I think we're so far behind the monkeys that there's still a new thing, just a stupid paypass that they don't even have a proper spread of...
I would also like to pay by phone, I hope that finally there will be a revolution in this area and that I will not only be aware of phones with an NFC chip, but in the store I have to take out the card and punch in the PIN
I'm happy when you can pay in a store with a card, let alone an NFC chip :D
Exactly. If NFC is not supported everywhere in the area, it's okay. Same as LTE in CR. We have it here, and it's on outdated sites. You've seen that map of Europe anyway. So it's the same as NFC
as for the acceptance site, it's ok, all contactless terminals are nfc capable. now only the other side... but what about ibeacon? I don't think Apple will just drop it...
WTF are you talking about? NFC, as correctly pointed out by b77cz, supports every terminal that accepts contactless payment, which in CR does more than 50% of all terminals. In Brno, for example, I know of only 2 stores that have a terminal, and it is not contactless. Personally, I basically only take the card out of my wallet when I go to withdraw money from an ATM, and my friend with an NFC phone has been happily paying wherever she looks for more than half a year. The fact that Apple figured it out after 2 years does not mean that the rest of the mobile world is similar to them in the past, nor that contactless payments are useless and no one needs them.
BTW, the PIN must be entered for contactless payment only for payments over CZK 500.
Because of iBeacon, I don't think there will be NFC. But who knows..
iBeacon does not compete with NFC.
Even if there was NFC, it will be truncated for programmers, like everything else - for example SMS - but that's scary on iOS...
