It's Friday, April 30, which means one thing for many Apple fans - they'll finally get their hands on Apple trackers Air Tag and original accessories for them. Although, according to our information, not too many pieces of these novelties have arrived in the Czech Republic, we managed to seize a four-pack of AirTags, together with a leather key ring and a strap, in the editorial office a few hours ago. In the following lines, we will therefore tell you our first impressions of them.

Accessories

Let's start with the leather accessories first. It probably won't surprise you that Apple packs it in a completely standard way in a white paper box with an image of the products on the top and an information sticker containing details of the product and the manufacturer on the bottom. In both cases, it is a "drawer" package, where after tearing off the bottom foil, you simply pull out the inner part of the box and thus get to the desired product - in our case, AirTag holders. In both cases, they were inserted into a paper press, which prevented their movement around the box.

If I had to evaluate the quality of processing and design of these accessories, I could not evaluate them otherwise than positively. In short, Apple knows how to make leather accessories, and it did it this time as well. First-class workmanship, perfect material quality and an overall very nice design make these accessories something you simply want to have on your keys or backpack, not that you have to because of the AirTag. What's also great is that the part into which the AirTag is inserted is relatively robust, so it is able to provide him with solid protection.

Air Tag

The AirTag locator itself is undoubtedly more interesting to know than the accessories. It is packaged in practically the same way as the accessories for it, so it doesn't make too much sense to repeat myself in this direction. So I'll just say that if you decide to buy it, expect a package similar to the one in which leather covers are sold, for example.

After unpacking the AirTags, I was very pleased with their design and workmanship almost immediately. In reality, they look much better than in photos and videos. In short, white in combination with silver stainless suits them, and I think that they don't even have to be ashamed of their round lens-like body. However, I have to agree with all the foreign reviewers who said in their texts and videos that AirTags are very easy to wear. Fingerprints and various smudges appeared on mine literally after a few seconds. As for resistance to scratches, I haven't yet had the honor to test more, thank God.

Pairing the AirTag with the phone is absolutely simple and, above all, quick. All that is needed is to activate the AirTag by unpacking it from the foil, and then attach it to the phone with which you want to pair it. The pairing process is very similar to that of, for example, AirPods, where you only need to confirm the pairing and it is de facto done. In the case of AirTag, in addition to confirming the pairing, you can also choose which object the locator will track, as the icon in the Find application will appear accordingly. From now on, you can see it in this application.

Since the AirTag is equipped with a U1 chip, it can be searched for using Find with an accuracy of centimeters when using compatible iPhones (i.e. iPhones with the same chip). Of course, I didn't miss that either, although I wasn't completely thrilled about it. This function works really well, but in my case, at about 8 to 10 meters, which seems quite short to me. However, it must be said that I have only tested AirTag so far in an older house with wide walls. So I will have to check the range in an open area or in apartments with narrower walls.

Summary

So how would I rate the AirTag after the first few tens of minutes of use? Totally positive. I find the processing, design and functionality very interesting, although the range did not completely dazzle. However, I prefer to leave larger conclusions until the review, which we are already preparing for Jablíčkář.
