Apple offers many adapters in the packaging of its products, in some it even does not offer any. Many of their variants are also sold as accessories within the Apple Online Store, of course you can also buy them at APR. This overview will help you identify a USB power adapter for iPhone, whichever one you own.

It's worth saying at the outset that you can use any of the adapters listed below to charge your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or iPod. You can also use adapters from other manufacturers that meet the safety standards in the countries and regions where the device is sold. This is usually the Safety of Information Technology Equipment standard, IEC/UL 60950-1 and IEC/UL 62368-1. You can also charge iPhones with newer Mac laptop adapters that have a USB-C connector.

Power adapter for iPhone

You can easily find out which power adapter you have. You just need to find the certification label on it, which is usually located on one of its undersides. The 5W USB power adapter was equipped with most iPhone packages before the 11 model. This is a basic adapter, which is also, unfortunately, quite slow. Also for that reason, Apple stopped including adapters in the 12th generation. They save their finances, our planet, and you will eventually buy the ideal one for you or use the one you already have at home.

The 10W USB power adapter is included with iPads, namely iPad 2, iPad mini 2 to 4, iPad Air and Air 2. The 12W USB adapter is already included with newer generations of Apple tablets, i.e. iPad 5th to 7th generation, iPad mini 5th generation, iPad Air 3rd generation and iPad Pro (9,7", 10,5", 12,9 1st and 2nd generation).

Fast charging iPhone

The 18W USB‑C power adapter can be found in the packaging of the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, as well as in the 11" iPad Pro 1st and 2nd generation and in the 12,9" iPad Pro 3rd and 4th generation. Apple says with this adapter that it already provides fast charging, starting with the iPhone 8 and up, but with the exception of the iPhone 12 series, which needs a minimum output power of 20W.

Fast charging here means that you can charge the iPhone battery up to 30 percent of its capacity in just 50 minutes. You still need a USB-C/Lightning cable for this. Fast charging is also provided by other adapters, namely 20W, 29W, 30W, 61W, 87W or 96W. Apple only bundles the 20W USB‑C power adapter with the 8th generation iPad and the 4th generation iPad Air. If we look at adapters designed specifically for iPhones, they will cost you CZK 590 regardless of their specification (5, 12, 20 W).

Third party manufacturers

Whatever your reason for doing so, third-party adapters can also quickly charge iPhones. In this case, however, check that, apart from the above-mentioned standards, it also meets the following specifications:

  • Frequency: 50–60 Hz, single phase
  • Input voltage: 100-240 VAC
  • Output voltage/current: 9 VDC / 2,2 A
  • Minimum output power: 20W
  • Output connector: USB‑C
