With the arrival of the iOS 14 operating system, Apple came up with a rather interesting novelty. A native translator arrived in the then new version of the system in the form of the Translate application, from which the giant promised great results. The application itself is based on overall simplicity and speed. At the same time, it also uses the Neural Engine option for overall acceleration, thanks to which it also works without an active Internet connection. So all translations take place on the so-called device.

Basically, it is a fairly common translator. But Apple managed to push it a little further. It is based on the idea of a simple and fast solution for translating conversations in real time. All you have to do is select the two languages between which you want to translate, tap the microphone icon and start speaking. Thanks to the Neural Engine, the application will automatically recognize the language being spoken and translate everything accordingly. The goal is to completely eliminate any language barrier.

Good idea, worse execution

Although the native Translate app builds on the great idea of translating entire conversations in real time, it still doesn't garner much popularity. Especially in countries like the Czech Republic. As is customary with Apple, the translator's capabilities are quite limited in terms of supported languages. Appka supports English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, German, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese. Although the offer is relatively extensive, for example Czech or Slovak is missing. So, if we wanted to use the solution, we have to be satisfied with, for example, English and solve everything in English, which can be a problem for many users. After all, this is precisely why Google Translator is undoubtedly the most widely used translator, whose range of languages is considerably more extensive.

At first glance, it may seem that Apple has more or less forgotten about its app and is no longer paying so much attention to it. But that is not entirely true. This is because when the feature was first launched, it only supported 11 languages. This number has significantly expanded with the arrival of other languages, but it is simply not enough for the mentioned competition. This is precisely why the question arises as to whether, as Czech apple growers, we will ever see a solution. For years, there has been discussion about the arrival of the Czech Siri, which is still nowhere in sight. The localization for the native Translate app will probably be exactly the same.

Limited features

On the other hand, according to some apple growers, there is nothing to be surprised about. In the case of Apple features, it is not unusual for some features and options to be significantly limited by location. As Czechs, we still do not have the aforementioned Siri, services such as Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, Apple Pay Cash and many others. The Apple Pay payment method is also a great example. Although Apple came up with it already in 2014, we did not receive support in our country until the beginning of 2019.
