In its four years of existence, Apple Pay has become a very popular payment method across several countries and is slowly but surely expanding to other countries around the world. We do not have this option in the Czech Republic yet, but we could expect it very soon. The Apple Pay payment method has also been liked by large companies such as eBay, which will gradually start offering its services.

The largest and most famous Internet auction house eBay is starting to spread its wings and slowly switch to new payment methods. In the fall, it will launch Apple Pay for the first time as one of the new payment options. People will thus be able to buy goods through the eBay mobile application or their website and pay for the order through an electronic wallet.

The option to pay via Apple Pay will initially only be available to a few selected individuals as part of the first wave at launch, so we won't find it at every retailer right away.

Apple Pay as a replacement for PayPal?

In the past, eBay was very much in favor of PayPal, preferring to pay through this portal. However, after a few years, the friendship between the two giants ended and eBay decided to drop PayPal as its main payment option. PayPal payments will be active until 2023, but by then eBay plans to convert all sellers to offering Apple Pay as a payment method.

PayPal offered eBay an integrated payment system for many years, which will be taken over by Amsterdam-based Adyen. We, as customers, will only see a change in the fact that eBay will not redirect us to other sites where payment is made if necessary. For example, the American provider of films and series Netflix uses the same service.
