Apple today announced the closing of cooperation with the company Dubset Media Holdings. This will make Apple Music the first streaming service to offer remixes and DJ sets.

Placing this type of content on streaming services has not yet been possible due to copyright. However, Dubset will use special technology to properly license and pay all rights holders associated with a given track/set. MixBank can, for example, analyze a one-hour DJ set in detail by comparing it with three-second snippets of songs from the Gracenote database. In the second step, the set is analyzed using MixScan software, which breaks it down into individual tracks and finds out who needs to be paid.

Analyzing 60 minutes of music takes about 15 minutes and can result in up to 600 names. An hour-long set usually contains around 25 songs, each of which is associated with a record company and between two and ten publishers. In addition to the creators, record companies and publishers, a part of the earnings from streaming will also go to the DJ or the person who created the remix, and a part will go to Dubset. For example, rights holders can set a maximum length of a song that can appear in a remix or DJ set, or prohibit the licensing of certain songs.

Dubset currently has licensing agreements with more than 14 record companies and publishers, and after Apple Music, its content may appear in all 400 digital music distributors worldwide.

The collaboration between Dubset and Apple, and hopefully others in the future, is good for both DJs and original music copyright holders. DJing and remixing are very popular these days and Dubset now offers a new possible source of income for both parties.

There is one more news today related to Apple Music. One of today's most popular EDM producers and DJs, Deadmau5, will have his own show on Beats 1 radio. It will be called “mau5trap presents…”. It will be possible to hear it for the first time on Friday, March 18 at 15.00:24.00 Pacific Standard Time (XNUMX:XNUMX in the Czech Republic). It is not yet known what exactly will be its content and if it will have more episodes.
