Microsoft today came up with a fairly significant update to its Office suite for iOS. It adds support for iCloud Drive, Apple's cloud storage, to Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications. Users can now open, edit and save documents stored on iCloud, without the need for an Office 365 subscription. In Redmond, they once again took a friendly step towards their users on the Apple platform.

Microsoft already in November enriched its office applications to support the popular Dropbox. However, iCloud integration is not as obvious and intuitive as it was in the case of Dropbox. While Dropbox could be added in the classic way through the "Connect a cloud service" menu, you can access iCloud and the files stored in it by tapping the "Next" option.

Unfortunately, the integration of iCloud Drive is not yet perfect, and in addition to this impractical hiding of iCloud in the menu, users also have to deal with, for example, the problem of poor support for some formats. For example, it is possible to use Word in iCloud to find a document created in TextEdit and preview it. However, the document cannot be opened or edited. But it can be expected that Microsoft will improve the support for the apple service in the future.
