Facebook has faced criticism several times this year from its former executives. Earlier this month, the co-founder of the popular social network, Chris Hughes, told The New York Times that the Federal Trade Commission should reverse Facebook's acquisition of the Instagram and WhatsApp platforms, calling Facebook a monopoly. Now Alex Stamos has also spoken out, calling the current director of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg a person "with too much power" and calling for his resignation.

Stamos, who was quoted by the news website CNBC, stated that if he were Zuckerberg, he would hire a new CEO for Facebook. Zuckerberg currently serves as interim product chief at Facebook, among other things. He replaced Chris Cox in the post earlier this year. Stamos believes that Zuckerberg should focus more on this area and leave the leadership position to someone else. According to Stamos, the ideal candidate for CEO of Facebook is, for example, Brad Smith from Microsoft.

Stamos, who left Facebook in 2018, said at the Collision Conference in Toronto, Canada, that Mark Zuckerberg has too much power and that he should give up some of it. "If I were him, I would hire a new director for the company," he added. Another problem, according to Stamos, is that Facebook really gives off the impression of a monopoly, and owning "three companies with the same problem" doesn't improve the situation one bit.

So far, Mark Zuckerberg has not responded to Stamos's statement, but he responded to the above-mentioned comment by Chris Hughes in an interview with the French radio station France 2 that the cancellation of Facebook would not help anything, and that his social network is, in his own opinion, "good for users."
