Manchester United, one of the most valuable football clubs in the world, has issued a ban on bringing tablets and laptops into their Old Trafford stadium. IN official statement the club will not be allowed to enter the stadium with large electronic devices that do not fit within the size limit of 150 x 100 mm. In the Manchester United report, it is explicitly written that the ban also applies to the iPad and iPad mini.

A similar ban was issued by the New York Yankees baseball club in 2010, but the ban on iPad entry into this American sports sanctuary was valid for only 2 years. You can still get to Old Trafford without any problems with your smartphone or small camera, but larger devices such as iPads will be completely banned for the new season. The tablets often obstructed the fans' view and disturbed the atmosphere of the match.

However, in addition to this aesthetic reason, the ban also has safety reasons. The modification of the rules for entering the stadium follows a series of new security measures introduced in recent weeks and months in other public places, especially airports. Western powers implement these measures, for example, after receiving information that members of Al-Qaeda operating in Yemen and allegedly also terrorists in Syria are working on a bomb that they will be able to get through detectors and even on board airplanes.

Such an explosive could theoretically look like, for example as a dummy mobile phone or tablet. Some authorities have therefore ordered to check whether electronic devices such as mobile phones or laptops are really working at airports. If such a device happens to have a dead battery and cannot be turned on, its owner may lose it and not have to go through airport control.

A football stadium is a place with a huge concentration of people, and safety should also be a top priority here, just like an airport. Probably also out of fear of a terrorist threat, they introduced a ban on bringing large electronic devices into Old Trafford. Either way, you won't be taking any iPad selfies at the Red Devils' stadium anymore.
