At this year's WWDC22 conference, in addition to new systems in the form of iOS and iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura and watchOS 9, Apple also presented two new machines. Specifically, we are talking about the brand new MacBook Air and 13″ MacBook Pro. Both of these machines are equipped with the latest M2 chip. As for the 13″ MacBook Pro, Apple fans have been able to buy it for a long time, but they had to wait patiently for the redesigned MacBook Air. Pre-orders for this machine started recently, specifically on July 8, with the new Air going on sale on July 15. Let's look together in this article at the 7 main advantages of the MacBook Air (M2, 2022), which could convince you to buy it.

You can buy MacBook Air (M2, 2022) here

New design

At first glance, you can notice that the new MacBook Air has undergone a redesign of the entire design. This change is the biggest in the Air's entire existence, as Apple completely got rid of the body, which tapers towards the user. This means that the thickness of the MacBook Air is the same throughout the depth, namely 1,13 cm. In addition, users can choose from four colors, from the original silver and space gray, but there is also the new star white and dark ink. In terms of design, the new MacBook Air is absolutely fantastic.

MagSafe

As many of you probably know, the original MacBook Air M1 had only two Thunderbolt connectors, just like the 13″ MacBook Pro with M1 and M2. So if you connected a charger to these machines, you only have one Thunderbolt connector left, which is not exactly ideal. Fortunately, Apple realized this and installed the third generation MagSafe charging connector in the new MacBook Air, which can also be found in the new 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro. Even when charging, both Thunderbolts will remain free with the new Air.

Quality front camera

As for the front camera, MacBooks for a long time offered one with a resolution of only 720p. This is rather laughable for today, even with the use of ISP, which is used to improve the image from the camera in real time. However, with the arrival of the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro, Apple finally deployed a 1080p camera, which fortunately made its way into the brand new MacBook Air. So if you often participate in video calls, you will definitely appreciate this change.

A powerful chip

As I mentioned in the introduction, the new MacBook Air has an M2 chip. It basically offers 8 CPU cores and 8 GPU cores, with the fact that you can pay extra for a variant with 10 GPU cores. This means that the MacBook Air is quite a bit more capable than the M1 – specifically, Apple says that by 18% in the case of the CPU and up to 35% in the case of the GPU. In addition to this, it is important to mention that the M2 has a media engine that will be especially appreciated by individuals working with video. The media engine can speed up video editing and rendering.

Greater unified memory

If you decide to buy a MacBook with an M1 chip, you only have two variants of unified memory available - basic 8 GB and extended 16 GB. For many users, these single memory capacities are sufficient, but there are definitely users who would appreciate a bit more memory. And the good news is that Apple has heard this too. So, if you opt for the MacBook Air M2, you can configure the top memory of 8 GB in addition to the uniform memory of 16 GB and 24 GB.

Zero noise

If you've ever owned a MacBook Air with an Intel processor, you'll tell me that it was practically a central heater, and on top of that, it was incredibly noisy due to the fan often running at full speed. However, thanks to Apple Silicon chips, which are both more powerful and more economical, Apple was able to make a radical change and completely remove the fan from the inside of the MacBook Air M1 - it's simply not needed. And Apple continues exactly the same with the MacBook Air M2. In addition to zero noise, these devices do not clog the insides with dust, which is another positive.

Great display

The last thing worth mentioning about the MacBook Air M2 is the display. It also got a redesign. At first glance, you can notice the cutout in the upper part where the aforementioned 1080p front camera is located, the display is also rounded in the upper corners. Its diagonal increased from the original 13.3″ to a full 13.6″, and as for the resolution, it went from the original 2560 x 1600 pixels to 2560 x 1664 pixels. The display of the MacBook Air M2 is called Liquid Retina and, in addition to the maximum brightness of 500 nits, it also manages the display of the P3 color gamut and also supports True Tone.
