It won't be long and it will be exactly one year since I got my Apple Watch. From the very first day, I take good care of my 42-millimeter sports edition apple watch and, above all, I try to protect it against possible impacts and unwanted scratches. Therefore, I have to knock that my Watch is still completely clean without a single scratch.
I've also been waiting a long time for some practical third-party straps to come to our market. Of course, since the launch, various protective covers and frames can be found on foreign servers, especially in China, but I was still waiting for something original and interesting. I finally got around to it recently.
Design firm Lunatik, which focuses on the most functional and high-quality accessories for Apple, has presented the perfect protection that will turn any Apple Watch into "digital G-Shocks" for real guys. We are talking about the Lunatik EPIK protective frame and strap, which completely respects, but at the same time improves the design of the Apple Watch.
But I have to state at the outset that not everyone will like this design. At first, I was also slightly disappointed, because after putting on the protective cover and the massive silicone strap, the Apple Watch loses its elegance and minimalism. The Lunatik Epik is really massive and was primarily created for demanding outdoor sports, such as mountain climbing, hiking, running and the like.
Apple Watch on steroids
On the other hand, if you are a fan of large watches, such as the mentioned G-Shocks from Casio, or you have large hands, you will appreciate the Lunatik Epik even outside of sports. I personally tested them for less than two months, when I wore the watch not only for sports, but also normally for work in the office, in the company and for culture. Probably the biggest added value of the Lunatik Epik is that you are not afraid of slightly banging the watch on something, i.e. performing some activity where there is a risk that some damage could occur, typically for example strengthening.
A couple of times it happened that I knocked my watch against the table top or the fur between the door. At that moment I was damn glad I had a protective cover on my watch. Of course, the Apple Watch remains fully functional even with the cover, including all sensors, the crown or the button for calling up contacts.
Lunatik Epik consists of several parts and assembly takes a few minutes. You place the Apple Watch in a two-part frame and a protective case at the same time. You connect the two parts together with narrow but very durable screws made of stainless steel, which also serve as the axes of the strap. This system completely excludes any possibility of loosening or even losing the Apple Watch and at the same time represents a very sophisticated solution for their protection.
Protection from all sides
When assembling the case, you have to be careful to tighten both screws correctly and sensitively, because if you don't have them tightened equally on both sides, the crown may not work. If the crown gets stuck after installation or does not turn at all, the screws need to be adjusted.
What I really like about the Lunatik Epik is that the protective bezel extends beyond the Apple Watch display itself. For that reason, you don't have to worry about turning the watch upside down, because you are always sure that there is a gap between the display and the given surface. Inside the polycarbonate frame there is a system of free corners and shock pads, so the watch is protected against possible shocks. Of course, the frame also covers the crown and the side button and the two side microphones, which are protected by a fine steel grid.
Lunatik Epik is available in several variants. I tested the aforementioned polycarbonate frame together with the silicone strap. The one is just completely comfortable and thanks to the removable mandrel and lots of holes, you can easily adjust the length of the strap.
After two months of continuous wearing, I can say that I really liked the Lunatik Epik, despite the initial disappointment. In terms of design, it is a very good piece, which is tightened down to the last detail, whether it is the aforementioned tightening system or the principle of adjusting the length of the tape. However, if polycarbonate with a silicone strap does not suit you, you can still choose from black or silver aluminum and silicone pulls, then from black aluminum and black leather or black aluminum and black metal.
The tested Lunatik Epik can be purchased at EasyStore.cz for 1 crowns. For this price, your watch will get a completely new look and face, which will certainly become the center of attention, as this solution is not yet widespread. It should be noted that if you were to go for a variant other than polycarbonate, you would have to pay a lot extra: the aluminum Lunatik Epik it costs 4 crowns and if you would like a leather strap for the aluminum case, the whole set will come out to 4 crowns. You can also find other color variants at EasyStore.cz.
The moment when the editors stopped distinguishing between paid advertising and product reviews...
Hello,
you can certainly think that, but it's definitely not true. I personally borrowed the product myself, tested it and will return it again. This is not a paid advertisement or anything like that. Of course, I'm not taking your point, but I wonder what else readers would be interested in reading about other than new products entering the market. I tested it objectively and wrote it. I described the caveats that I don't like about the case and strap in the article, and for people who are looking for a solution to protect the AW and at the same time want to change the look of their watch, this is an interesting solution that is very well done in terms of construction.
In any case, if you have ideas and suggestions for some interesting articles, accessories, we are happy to be inspired and possibly even write, so we can arrange a loan and we can test something. This is how it works for us and, for example, the aforementioned Easystore is the exclusive distributor for most gadgets and accessories sold in all APRs.
Probably not here, but it's always a mess at Brezina.
I would consider a good case to be one that protects the most fragile, most breakable part of the device. That, of course, is the display. The fact that the case has a raised edge may prevent it from being scratched and broken against a flat wall, but not against the rock in the photo (at easystore).
I myself only use Skinomi films, which cover 98% of the glass surface - i.e. even the edges. However, they are not very durable and often a piece of the corner peels off and dirt gets packed on it. But the display protects well.
