Models with the nickname Pro Max belong to the most equipped and most expensive iPhones. Although Apple has recently stopped distinguishing the equipment of the Pro and Pro Max models, the fact that the latter has a larger display clearly puts it above it. But does it make sense to invest in the iPhone 14 Pro Max if you own last year's iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Design and dimensions

At first glance, the two generations are very similar, but still a lot of changes have taken place. iPhone 13 Pro Max is currently available in alpine green, mountain blue, silver, gold and graphite gray, the new product has a color palette in the form of dark purple, gold, silver and space black. At first glance, you can also distinguish them by the larger output of the new camera module. However, the dimensions have also changed slightly.

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: height 160,8mm, width 78,1mm, thickness 7,65mm, weight 238g
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: height 160,7mm, width 77,6mm, thickness 7,85mm, weight 240g

Resistance to spills, water and dust remained. Both models therefore comply with the IP68 specification (up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 6 meters) according to the IEC 60529 standard.

Display

The diagonal of the display remained 6,7 inches, but otherwise it was improved in almost all respects. Resolution has jumped from 2778×1284 at 458 pixels per inch to 2796×1290 at 460 pixels per inch, peak brightness from 1 to 200 nits, and Apple is also introducing outdoor peak brightness, which is 1 nits in the case of novelty. As the adaptive refresh rate now starts at 600Hz, the always-on display feature is also available. The iPhone 2 Pro Max starts at 000 Hz and ends at the same 1 Hz. The main thing is, of course, Dynamic Island. So Apple redesigned its viewport into this "island" that's interactive and a great addition to iOS 13.

Performance and RAM

Apple has once again taken the performance of mobile chips to the next level. Last year we had the A15 Bionic with a 6-core CPU with 2 performance cores and 4 economy cores, now we have the A16 Bionic. Although it also has a 6-core CPU with 2 performance cores and 4 economy cores, as well as a 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, it is manufactured with a 4nm process, while the A15 Bionic is manufactured with a 5nm process. So it's no surprise that the iPhone 14 Pro will be the top performer. The RAM still remains at 6GB.

Camera specifications

There is no doubt that the new generation will provide better quality and more detailed photos, thanks to the new Photonic Engine and the redesigned camera system. How much it will be, we will see after the tests. The new product can film in 4K HDR at up to 30 fps (also with TrueDepth cameras) and has an Action mode.

iPhone 13 Pro Max

  • Ultra wide camera: 12 MPx, f/1,8, angle of view 120˚
  • Telephoto lens: 12 MPx, 3x optical zoom, OIS, f/2,8
  • LiDAR scanner
  • Front camera: 12MP, f/2,2

iPhone 14 Pro Max

  • Wide angle camera: 48 MPx, 2x zoom, OIS with 2nd generation sensor shift, f/1,78
  • Ultra wide camera: 12 MPx, f/2,2, angle of view 120˚
  • Telephoto lens: 12 MPx, 3x optical zoom, OIS, f/2,8
  • LiDAR scanner
  • Front camera: 12 MPx, f/1,9, PDAF

Battery and other specifications

Even though Apple states an hour more in the case of video playback, it can be judged that the included battery is the same, namely the one with a capacity of 4352 mAh. However, Apple also states the same support for fast charging, i.e. charging up to 50% in 30 minutes using at least a 20W adapter. MagSafe and Qi are not missing.

The novelty offers Bluetooth 5.3 instead of version 5.0, has accurate dual-frequency GPS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and BeiDou), is capable of satellite communication and provides car accident detection, as Apple has worked on the gyroscope and accelerometer. So here it is instead of a three-axis gyroscope
high dynamic range gyroscope and accelerometer learned to sense high overload.
