So, we know the shape of the new operating systems and we know that we haven't seen any hardware. Is it disappointing? It depends. It depends not only on the point of view, but also on your demands, or what kind of user you are. The opening conference of WWDC21 was thus more in spirit "the wolf ate itself and the goat remained whole".

There is no shortage of news, by any means. Just listing them succinctly across iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8 and macOS 12 will take your time. So in the case of tvOS 15, you won't be able to count much. Throw in privacy information and don't forget developer tools. But I can't get rid of the impression that the keynote still fell short of expectations. Of course, all the leaks we've been "fed" lately are to blame. But they like to believe it.

Personal data as hard currency

Looking at the WWDC keynote as a whole, I really have no reason to be disappointed. You can see here a clear shift to make communication more pleasant in the time of the coronavirus, but also that Apple is stepping more and more into improving privacy. He could easily throw a pitchfork into it, but privacy is what we should be concerned about. Paradoxically, when I look at the readership of articles published during and after the keynote on the Jablíčkára website, you are the least interested in privacy (along with developer tools, for which it is understandable). And I ask why?

We don't often ask our readers for a reaction, but this time I'll take the liberty of doing so in this comment. Are you interested in the issue of privacy within Apple devices and the services you use? Write me your reaction in the comments. Personally, I don't see it as just PR for Apple, which can brag in front of Android thanks to the fact that its systems pay much more attention to the privacy and security of its users compared to it, and Android is just trying hard to catch up.

Before iOS 14.5, you might not have realized how much your data was worth and how much different companies were paying for it. You may not even realize it now, but being tracked by third-party apps and services is a really essential step in keeping other companies from preying on you. And iOS 15 with other systems takes this even further, and that's only good.

Universal control as a new style of work

I do not want to list here the individual functions of the systems that were presented. I want to dwell on just one, which really, as the only one, could make the jaws of all the Memoji present in the hall drop. That function is Universal Control, probably Universal Control in Czech. If the control of the computer and the iPad will work as smoothly as it was presented to us, perhaps we have the birth of a new style of working with our devices. Although I personally don't yet know what I would actually use this for, I have to admit that at least the presentation of the function was really effective.

Hardware as a promise to the future

That revolution was last year when we were introduced to Apple Silicone. This year, we couldn't expect another one, and logically, only evolution came. Decent and without unnecessary things, only in terms of improving established systems. If we were to look at WWDC in the style that everything was not presented, it would be a fiasco. But what everyone knew was coming (operating systems) has come.

So we will have to wait for MacBooks, as well as for larger iMacs, new AirPods, HomePods, their homeOS operating system and, last but not least, the Czech Siri, which was also actively speculated about. We'll see you someday, don't worry. Apple does not give up on the Czech Republic, after four years it finally starts selling here Apple Watch LTE. And that's just the first swallow.
