Adam Kos At its Wednesday event, Samsung didn't just present the folding duo Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3. There were also smart watches. Specifically, these are the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, and definitely don't be fooled by their numbers. Thanks to the completely new Wear OS system, it is supposed to be the killer of the Apple Watch.
In 2015, when Apple presented its vision of a smart watch, other manufacturers subsequently also had their vision, but were unable to transform it into a truly ideal device. Apple Watch thus practically had no regular competition, until now. The new Galaxy Watch Series 4 was developed by Samsung in cooperation with Google, and Wear OS was created from this. But it is worth noting that this is not exclusive to the brand, but all future watches from various manufacturers of Android devices can also implement Wear OS in their solution.

The inspiration is obvious
The grid of applications is strikingly similar to that of watchOS, as well as its arrangement with the help of a longer hold on the icon. The shape of some of the dials also seems to outshine its competitors. However, there is still one fundamental difference – Samsung watches are still round, which also applies to their display, around which there is a rotating bezel that alternatively controls the system.
Apple's solution has an advantage in its design, at least as far as text consumption is concerned. It simply spreads better on it. However, the circular display is not limited by this and simply shows everything as if it were on a square display, even if it is round. And maybe it's better than coming up with some crazy cuts.
It's also about functions
The new Galaxy Watch Series 4 has an EKG app, blood pressure measurement, sleep monitoring, and even a function that tells you everything about your body composition - not only body fat and skeletal muscle percentage, but also body water content. This BIA measurement takes 15 seconds using two fingers on the sensors in the buttons.

While the Galaxy Watch 4 is made of aluminum, the 4 Classic has a stainless steel finish. Both have 1,5GB RAM, IP68, dual-core Exynos W920 processor and more than 40 hours of battery life. They give twice the time of the Apple Watch. The Galaxy Watch 4 in its 40mm variant costs CZK 6, the 990mm variant costs CZK 44. The Galaxy Watch Classic 7 is available in the 590mm size for 4 CZK, in the 42mm size it costs 9 CZK. As you can see, the prices are also friendly.

I don't want to discuss everything the news can do here, you can have a look at that to the Samsung website. I don't want to compare the devices with each other, just as I don't want to knock the quality of one or the other. The Apple Watch is the leader in its segment, and indeed in the segment of any type of watch in general. And that, in my opinion, is precisely the mistake. Without competition, there is no effort to push forward and come up with new solutions.

Having dominated the market, Apple has little need to innovate. Take a look back at the individual Apple Watch series and you will find that the news is not increasing. There is always just some little thing that pleases, but certainly does not fundamentally convince you to buy. However, Samsung and Google have now shown that Android can also have a quality watch. And we hope that they will be successful and that other manufacturers will be able to add new interesting features to Wear OS that will force Apple to act.
