iSuppli's component breakdown of Apple's latest iPod nano (6th generation) has revealed the approximate manufacturing costs of the new product.

Market research by iSuppli has shown that the latest iPod nano, which was introduced on September 1 this year, confirms the rule "less is sometimes more". This device combines a remarkable design, features and an economical solution. In addition, I think that the new iPod nano will become a very popular player.

That's why iSuppli took apart this iPod, specifically the 8GB version, to find out what parts it consists of and, most importantly, what its manufacturing cost is. The cost of iPod nano components was set at $43,73 and manufacturing costs were set at $1,37. When we compare these costs with the previous versions of the nano, we find that this novelty is the second cheapest iPod nano in terms of production.

Which was definitely Apple's goal as well. Come up with a completely updated iPod that got a touch screen and at the same time save as much as possible or make money. That's why the iPod nano 6th generation also contains components from different manufacturers. For example, Toshiba supplied Flash memory and Samsung RAM and processor. You can see the complete list of components including the price in the image below.

Therefore, if the costs were found correctly, it would mean that the costs make up only 30% of the product price, for the previous iPod nano model it was 33%. The retail price of the 6th generation nano is $149.

In our country, the 8 GB version of the iPod nano is sold for around 3 - 600 CZK. 4 GB version from 300 - 16 CZK. If we ignore the price and focus only on the upgraded iPod, then I think that this move by Apple has really succeeded. The new nano looks very good. I was a little skeptical about how the tiny touch screen would work, but after watching a few videos I was blown away.

If you haven't seen the news yet, you can watch Apple's TV ad for this very product above.
